Let A be a nilpotent matrix of index two, and consider the Yang–Baxter-like matrix equation AXA=XAX. We first obtain a system of matrix equations of smaller sizes to find all the solutions of the original matrix equation. When A is a nilpotent matrix with rank 1 and rank 2, we get all solutions of the Yang–Baxter-like matrix equation.

In this paper, a kind of complex fuzzy linear matrix equation A X ˜ B = C ˜ , in which C ˜ is a complex fuzzy matrix and A and B are crisp matrices, is investigated by using a matrix method. The complex fuzzy matrix equation is extended into a crisp system of matrix equations by means of arithmetic operations of fuzzy numbers. Two brand new and simplified procedures for solving the original fuzzy equation are proposed and the correspondingly sufficient condition for strong fuzzy solution are analysed. Some examples are calculated in detail to illustrate our proposed method.

We solve the quadratic matrix equation AXA = XAX with a given nilpotent matrix A, to find all commuting solutions. We first provide a key lemma, and consider the special case that A has only one Jordan block to motivate the idea for the general case. Our main result gives the structure of all the commuting solutions of the equation with an arbitrary nilpotent matrix.

We in this paper give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the general solution to the system of matrix equations [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] over the quaternion algebra ℍ, and present an expression of the general solution to this system when it is solvable. Using the results, we give some necessary and sufficient conditions for the system of matrix equations [Formula: see text] over ℍ to have a reducible solution as well as the representation of such solution to the system when the consistency conditions are met. A numerical example is also given to illustrate our results. As another application, we give the necessary and sufficient conditions for two associated electronic networks to have the same branch current and branch voltage and give the expressions of the same branch current and branch voltage when the conditions are satisfied.

AbstractWe construct an explicit set of algebraically independent generators for the center of the universal enveloping algebra of the centralizer of a nilpotent matrix in the general linear Lie algebra over a field of characteristic zero. In particular, this gives a new proof of the freeness of the center, a result first proved by Panyushev, Premet and Yakimova.
