In this paper, we introduce a new method to solve Interval-Valued Transportation Problem (IVTP) to deal with those problems of transportation wherein the information available is imprecise. First, a newly proposed fuzzification method is used to convert the IVTP to octagonal fuzzy transportation problem and then with the help of ranking function proposed in this paper, the fuzzy transportation problem is converted into crisp transportation problem. Lastly, Initial Basic Feasible Solution (IBFS) of this problem is obtained using Vogel’s Approximation Method and the solution is improved using Modified Distribution (MODI) method. A numerical example with interval data is solved using the proposed algorithm to make comparison of the solution with some other methods. Also, a numerical example with parameters in the form of octagonal fuzzy numbers is illustrated to compare the effectiveness of the proposed ranking technique. The proposed fuzzification and ranking technique can be used in the other fields of decision making dealing with the data in the same form as considered in this paper.

In this paper were developed fast array algorithms for the linear minimum mean square error estimator for a class of Markovian jump linear systems with structured time-variant parameters. The fast array algorithms for systems with structured time-variant parameters arises as an alternative to calculate this type algorithm for some variation in the time of the parameters. Numerical example to show the advantage of using fast array algorithm to filter this class of systems are provided.

Topology is studying the objects which are considered to be equal if they may also be continually deformed through other shapes as bending and twisting without tearing or glueing them. Topology is similar in geometrical structures and quantitatively equivalent. Nanotopology is the study of set. The main goal of this article is to propose the idea of generalized closed sets in Pythagorean nanotopological spaces. In addition, the concept of semigeneralized closed sets is also defined, and their properties are investigated. An application to MADM using Pythagorean nanotopology has been proposed and illustrated using a numerical example.

On the basis of Hamacher operations, in this manuscript, we interpret bipolar complex fuzzy Hamacher weighted average (BCFHWA) operator, bipolar complex fuzzy Hamacher ordered weighted average (BCFHOWA) operator, bipolar complex fuzzy Hamacher hybrid average (BCFHHA) operator, bipolar complex fuzzy Hamacher weighted geometric (BCFHWG) operator, bipolar complex fuzzy Hamacher ordered weighted geometric (BCFHOWG) operator, and bipolar complex fuzzy Hamacher hybrid geometric (BCFHHG) operator. We present the features and particular cases of the above-mentioned operators. Subsequently, we use these operators for methods that can resolve bipolar complex fuzzy multiple attribute decision making (MADM) issues. We provide a numerical example to authenticate the interpreted methods. In the end, we compare our approach with existing methods in order to show its effectiveness and practicality.

This paper describes a method to minimize bearing forces as well as bearing and housing mass for a multistage gear reduction. This is done by finding the optimum dog-leg angles for the stages while leaving other aspects of the design unaltered. The optimization is demonstrated first for spur gears, and then for helical gears typically used in electric vehicles. A numerical example shows how bearing forces and mass of bearings and housing are reduced considerably by choosing the optimum dog-leg angle.

Abstract We consider computation of market values of bonus payments in multi-state with-profit life insurance. The bonus scheme consists of additional benefits bought according to a dividend strategy that depends on the past realization of financial risk, the current individual insurance risk, the number of additional benefits currently held, and so-called portfolio-wide means describing the shape of the insurance business. We formulate numerical procedures that efficiently combine simulation of financial risk with classic methods for the outstanding insurance risk. Special attention is given to the case where the number of additional benefits bought only depends on the financial risk. Methods and results are illustrated via a numerical example.

A method is shown for preventing temporal broadening of ultrafast optical pulses in highly dispersive and fluctuating media for arbitrary signal-pulse profiles. Pulse pairs, consisting of a strong-field control-pulse and a weak-field signal-pulse, co-propagate, whereby the specific profile of the strong-field pulse precisely compensates for the dispersive phase in the weak pulse. A numerical example is presented in an optical system consisting of both resonant and gain dispersive effects. Here, we show signal-pulses that do not temporally broaden across a vast propagation distance, even in the presence of dispersion that fluctuates several orders of magnitude and in sign (for example, within a material resonance) across the pulse’s bandwidth. Another numerical example is presented in normal dispersion telecom fiber, where the length at which an ultrafast pulse does not have significant temporal broadening is extended by at least a factor of 10. Our approach can be used in the design of dispersion-less fiber links and navigating pulses in turbulent dispersive media. Furthermore, we illustrate the potential of using cross-phase modulation to compensate for dispersive effects on a signal-pulse and fill the gap in the current understanding of this nonlinear phenomenon.

A particular solution of a linear variant of the dynamic thermal elasticity problem is considered in application to modeling the conditions of surface hardening of metal products by an energy pulse. The authors determined the equation of medium motion with the model of temperature pulse tested earlier for compatibility with special cases of the equations of parabolic and hyperbolic thermal conductivity. The problem of loading a flat plane of a short circular cylinder (disk) with a temperature pulse is presented. Pulse is a consequence of adopted structure of the volumetric power density of the heat flux, the time multiplier of which has the form of a single wave of the Heaviside function. Classical thermoelastic displacement potential and the method of its division into the product of independent variables functions were used to construct the thermal stress tensor. Differential equations for multiplier functions and their general solutions were found. Natural boundary conditions were set for the components of thermal stress tensor, and their tasks were solved. The obtained solutions are in the form of segments of functional series (the Bessel function in radial coordinate and the exponential function in axial coordinate). The article considers a numerical example of loading a disk made of 40KhN steel which has the mechanical properties sensitive to temperature treatment. Maple computer mathematics package was used in the calculations. Approximate solutions take into account the first 24 terms of the functional series. Estimation of the example makes it possible to explain the presence of stress peaks and stress intensity as a consequence of mutually inverse processes of temperature stress growth and reduction of elasticity coefficients with temperature rise. The numerical example warns against relying only on estimates of solutions to thermoelasticity problems without taking into account the plastic and viscous properties of the material.

In this paper, we introduce and study an iterative algorithm via inertial and viscosity techniques to find a common solution of a split generalized equilibrium and a variational inequality problem in Hilbert spaces. Further, we prove that the sequence generated by the proposed theorem converges strongly to the common solution of our problem. Furthermore, we list some consequences of our established algorithm. Finally, we construct a numerical example to demonstrate the applicability of the theorem. We emphasize that the result accounted in the manuscript unifies and extends various results in this field of study.

The notions of the fuzzy β -minimal and maximal descriptions were established by Yang et al. (Yang and Hu, 2016 and 2019). Recently, Zhang et al. (Zhang et al. 2019) presented the fuzzy covering via ℐ , T -fuzzy rough set model ( FC ℐ T FRS ), and Jiang et al. (Jiang et al., in 2019) introduced the covering through variable precision ℐ , T -fuzzy rough sets ( CVP ℐ T FRS ). To generalize these models in (Jiang et al., 2019 and Zhang et al. 2019), that is, to improve the lower approximation and reduce the upper approximation, the present paper constructs eight novel models of an FC ℐ T FRS based on fuzzy β -minimal (maximal) descriptions. Characterizations of these models are discussed. Further, eight types of CVP ℐ T FRS are introduced, and we investigate the related properties. Relationships among these models are also proposed. Finally, we illustrate the above study with a numerical example that also describes its practical application.
