Two new species of Clinanthus (Asparagales: Amaryllidaceae: Clinantheae) from northern Peru

Clinanthus fabianae and C. thiagoi are described from Ancash and La Libertad departments of Peru. Both species have similar perigone coloration, broadly lobed staminal coronas, and incurved free filaments. They may represent a distinct species group, along with the previously described C. inflatus. The species can be separated by number of flowers, pedicel length, flower habit, tube length, morphology and pattern of dilation, and color of the tepal apiculum.

Hoplias lacerdae was originally described from the rio Ribeira de Iguape, Iporanga, São Paulo State. The Hoplias lacerdae group is defined as containing generally large trahiras with the medial margins of dentaries running parallel to each other and lacking teeth on the basihyal compared to the H. malabaricus group in which the medial margins of the dentaries converge towards the mandibular symphysis and which have teeth on the basihyal. A taxonomic revision of the group based on meristic and morphometric data identified five distinct species: H. lacerdae distributed in the rio Ribeira de Iguape and rio Uruguai; H. intermedius from the rio São Francisco, upper rio Paraná basin, and rio Doce; H. brasiliensis from rivers of the Atlantic Coastal drainage from the rio Paraguaçu to the rio Jequitinhonha; H. australis new species, endemic to the rio Uruguai; and H. curupira new species present in northern South America, including the rios Negro, Trombetas, Tapajós, Xingu, Tocantins and Capim in the Amazon basin, upper rio Orinoco near the rio Casiquiare (Venezuela), and coastal rivers of Guyana and Suriname. A lectotype for Hoplias intermedius and a neotype for H. brasiliensis are designated.

Two new species of Caligus are described from the Japanese coast of the Sea of Japan. Caligus chinglonglinisp. nov. is based on a male specimen found in a plankton sample, whereas C. kajiisp. nov. was collected from the body surface of the host flathead Platycephalus sp. These two new species can be assigned to a distinct species group, the pseudorhombi group newly named and defined by the morphology of the genital complex in both sexes, and by the structure and armature of legs 2 and 4. The species group so far accommodates 19 species including these two new species. The morphology, host specificity and zoogeography of the species group are discussed herein and keys to species groups of Caligus and to species of the C. pseudorhombi species group are provided.

Two new species of ground beetles of the genus Uenoites Belousov et Kabak, 2016 (tribe Trechini) are described from mountains of northern Myanmar: U. reuteri sp. n., and U. tibialis sp. n.. There are the first members of the genus found outside Yunnan Province of China. The taxonomic position of the new species within the genus is discussed based on the relevant character states in external and genital morphology. Both newly described species are closely related to each other and seem to form a distinct species-group within extremely diverse genus Uenoites. Externally, the newly described species are much more similar to very large members of the genus Queinnectrechus Deuve, 1992, than to most Uenoites but differs in an increased number of elytral setiferous pores in stria 3 and in the presence of the preapical pore.

AbstractEpicypta is treated in the sense employed by Edwards (1925) under the name Delopsis Skuse. The species of Epicypta in the Holarctic region are discussed and keyed. Type material of Mycetophila aterrima Zett., M. selecta Walker, M. vitrea Coquillett and Epicypta pulicaria Loew has been examined and found to be conspecific. Lectotypes are designated for aterrima, vitrea and pulicaria. Mycetophila anomala Johannsen (holotype examined) is a distinct species but a new name, limnophila nom.n. is proposed as it is a homonym. Both aterrima and limnophila are Holarctic. Four other European species, scatophora (Perris), fumigata (Dziedzicki), torquata Matile and nigrobasis (Dziedzicki) (last not examined) are recognised. These six species and the Japanese ornatipennis (Okada) (not examined) belong to one species group related to Oriental and Afrotropical species. Two new species, lepida n.sp. and helvopicta n.sp., described from north America, belong to different, otherwise Neotropical, species groups. Descriptions and figures are given for all species known from the Holarctic, except nigrobasis and ornatipennis.

The genus Pholcus Walckenaer, 1805 is reported from Pakistan for the first time. Two new species of the Pholcus nenjukovi species-group are described: Pholcus hamuchal Yao & Li sp. nov. (Gilgit Baltistan, male and female) and Pholcus kalam Yao & Li sp. nov. (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, male and female). Type material is deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IZCAS) in Beijing, China.

Two new species of the genus Olophrum Erichson, 1839 of the laxum group are described and illustrated: O. lama Shavrin, sp.n. (Nepal: Rolwaling Himal) and O. schuelkei Shavrin, sp.n. (China: Shaanxi). Olophrum laxum Shavrin & Smetana, 2017 from Yunnan and O. pacei Shavrin & Smetana, 2017 from Shaanxi and Hubei provinces of China are recorded for the first time. A modified key of the laxum group is provided.

Unclear boundaries between species hinder identification in the field and in herbaria, especially in species groups that can only be distinguished on the basis of subtle morphological and ecological features. One such taxon is Ficinia indica, widespread in the Greater Cape Floristic Region, growing on deep sandy soils between sea level and 1000 m elevation. Within its range, several phylogenetically related and morphologically similar species co-occur or occupy distinct habitats. Studies in herbaria show species in the Ficinia indica complex to be largely misidentified based on the use of qualitative information. Here, we investigate whether the six taxa recognized, based on one or a few characters, are supported as distinct species based on multivariate analysis of macro-morphological data. Two of the taxa were mostly separated whereas the other four taxa overlapped in multivariate space, but all the taxa could be distinguished using a single or a combination of morphological and ecological characters. We uphold the four previously recognized taxa (Ficinia argyropus, F. elatior, F. indica, F. laevis) as species, describe two new species (F. arnoldii and F. montana), and provide a dichotomous key for their identification.
