Two new species of genus Lactarius from India, Lactarius sarthalanus (L. subg. Plinthogalus) and L. drassinus (L. subg. Lactarius) are presented with detailed descriptions, line drawings and microphotographs. The novelty and placement of these taxa within the genus Lactarius are confirmed with ITS based phylogeny.

Two new species of the genus Amanita are described from India. Amanita argenteoalba, a member of subgenus Lepidella section Lepidella, is characterized by its small to medium sized basidiocarps, white to silvery white pileus with brownish orange tinge, universal veil on pileus as floccose-felted to subfelted patches, rooting bulb covered by recurved scales on its upper parts, subglobose basidiospores, the absence of clamp connections in the basidioma and universal veil on pileus comprising of irregularly arranged inflated cells with scattered to frequent filamentous hyphae and occurrence in broad leaf forest under Rhododendron arboreum. Amanita dhakuriana, a representative member of subgenus Amanita section Vaginatae, is characterized by its small sized basidiocarps, the pileus that is greenish grey over centre and pale grey towards the margin and subglobose to broadly ellipsoid basidiospores. Both species are described, illustrated and compared with morphologically similar taxa, and nrLSU-based phylogenetic analyses were provided.

Two new species belonging to the precious coral genus Corallium were collected during a series of exploratory cruises to the New England and Corner Rise Seamounts in 2003–2005. One red species, Corallium bathyrubrum sp. nov., and one white species, C. bayeri sp. nov., are described. Corallium bathyrubrum is the first red Corallium to be reported from the western Atlantic. An additional species, C. niobe Bayer, 1964 originally described from the Straits of Florida, was also collected and its description augmented.

Two taxa of Amomum (Zingiberaceae), Amomum erythranthum and Amomum ampliflorum, from Putao, Kachin State of Northern Myanmar are described and illustrated as new to science. Amomum erythranthum is morphologically similar to A. subulatum and A. nimkeyense in having similar yellow flowers, but can be distinguished by its reddish floral tube, red anther connective, red and pubescent fruit. Amomum ampliflorum is similar to A. maximum, A. dealbatum and A. odontocarpum in white flower, but differs in its longer inflorescence and much larger flower. Two species, Amomum pauciflorum and Wurfbainia microcarpum are recorded for the flora of Myanmar for the first time. Data on ecology, phenology, distribution, conservation status, similarities to the related taxa, as well as colour photographs and line drawings of the type, and voucher specimens are provided for all reported taxa.

Species of Clavaria (Clavariaceae, Agaricales) collected from China were studied using morphological and molecular methods. Two species, C. griseolilacina and C. sinensis were described as new species; both possess branched and pale purple-tinged fruit bodies. However, the former possess a few branched, while the latter is profusely branched. The phylogenetic analysis based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences confirmed the distinctions between these two new species and their close relationships with C. rubicundula and C. fumosa in the genus. An evolutionary tendency in genus Clavaria was discussed. Additionally, morphological features of the two new species were described in detail and were illustrated with line drawings and photographs. Holotypes of the new species are deposited in the Mycological Herbarium of Hunan Normal University (MHHNU). The ITS sequences generated in this study were deposited in GenBank. A key is provided for the known Clavaria species in China.

The taxonomy of the genus Clytra Laicharting, 1781 occurring in China is studied. Two new species are described: Clytra (Clytraria) tanae sp. nov. from Qinghai and Yunnan, and Clytra (Clytraria) truncatula sp. nov. from Xinjiang. The Chinese fauna of the genus is thus increased to 13 species/subspecies in total. Keys to the Chinese genera of Clytrini and to Chinese species of Clytra are provided in addition to color plates and line drawings of habitus, maxilla, labium, male genitalia and spermatheca, which facilitates species identification; geographic distributions of 12 species/subspecies are mapped. The type specimens are deposited in Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China.

We describe 22 new species in the genus Hyphantrophaga Townsend, 1892 (Diptera: Tachinidae) from Area de Conservación Guanacaste (ACG) in north-western Costa Rica. All species were reared from an ongoing inventory of wild-caught caterpillars spanning a variety of families (Lepidoptera: Bombycidae, Crambidae, Depressariidae, Doidae, Erebidae, Euteliidae, Gelechiidae, Geometridae, Hedylidae, Hesperiidae, Immidae, Lasiocampidae, Limacodidae, Megalopygidae, Mimaloniidae, Noctuidae, Nolidae, Notodontidae, Nymphalidae, Papilionidae, Pieridae, Phiditiidae, Pterophoridae, Pyralidae, Riodinidae, Saturniidae, Sphingidae, Thyrididae, Tortricidae and Zygaenidae). We provide a morphological description of each species together with information on life history, molecular data and photographic documentation. In addition to the new species, we provide a redescription of the genus, as well as the redescription of three previously described species, which were also collected within ACG during this study: Hyphantrophagaangustata (van der Wulp), Hyphantrophagamyersi (Aldrich) and Hyphantrophagavirilis (Aldrich & Webber). Four ammonoid species are described from the Early Carboniferous (Mississippian) Iridet Formation of the Ahnet and Mouydir (Central Sahara, Algeria); three of which are new: <i>Eurites temertassetensis</i> n. sp., <i>Trimorphoceras teguentourense</i> n. sp., and <i>Trimorphoceras azzelmattiense</i> n. sp. The species can be attributed to the North African <i>Ammonellipsites-Merocanites</i> Assemblage (<i>Fascipericyclus-Ammonellipsites</i> Genus Zone; Late Tournaisian to Early Viséan). The diving beetles Liodessus altoperuensissp. nov. and Liodessus caxamarcasp. nov. (Dytiscidae, Hydroporinae, Bidessini) are described from the high altitudes of the Puna regions of north western Peru. They occur in shallow and exposed mossy peatland puddles. We delineate the two species using structures such as male genitalia, beetle size, shape and colour pattern. Mitochondrial Cox1 data were also generated, and revealed clusters congruent with morphological evidence. Altogether fourteen Liodessus species are now known from the Andean region.
