Voucher material recently collected from the 2-Mile Reef at Sodwana Bay (Republic of South Africa), allows the evaluation of the monotypic genus Koehleria Cherbonnier, 1988 and its species K. unica Cherbonnier, 1988 collected from Tul ar (Madagascar). Cherbonnier s (1988) conclusion, that Koehleria is most related to the also monotypic genus Pseudocolochirus Pearson, 1910 is correct, but the differences between Koehleria and Pseudocolochirus are too small to justify the retention of Koehleria. Koehleria is relegated herein to the synonymy of Pseudocolochirus. Such a step decreases the velocity with which monotypic genera are currently described within the Dendrochirotida.

Thesmophora scopulosa Rourke (Stilbaceae) a monotypic genus endemic to the Ceres mountains, South Western Cape Province, South Africa, is described. It is characterized particularly by its pendulous ovules and 4-lobed corolla.

A phylogeny of all nine subgenera of Drosanthemum, based on chloroplast sequence-data, is presented. The results confirm some previously published facts, e.g. that D. zygophylloides is sister to Drosanthemum. We propose to treat this species as a new monotypic genus, Lemonanthemum, which differs from Drosanthemum in features of the leaves and fruit-stalks. In Drosanthemum s.s., the small subg. Quadrata, characterized by 4-locular fruits, is highly supported as sister to the remainder of Drosanthemum (where fruits are 5-locular). Further, our data support the transfer of Delosperma pubipetalum to Drosanthemum (where a nomenclatural change is also made). The pubescent petals, 5-locular fruits with narrow covering membranes and downward-pointing hair-like papillae on the branches suggest that D. pubipetalum is close to D. papillatum and belongs to subg. Quastea. Another species, D. badspoortense, which had been placed in D. subg. Quastea on account of its narrow covering membranes, is shown to belong to Delosperma and also lacks the unique structure of the fruit-stalk of Drosanthemum. In addition, a new species, D. overbergense, is described from disjunct patches of remnant renosterveld within the Overberg and near Albertinia, in the Western Cape of South Africa. Morphological characteristics suggest that this species belongs to subg. Xamera, but this was not corroborated by our molecular data. Finally, a new name—Drosanthemum calcareum—is proposed for the illegitimate D. intermedium and a lectotype (at BOL) is designated for D. pubipetalum. The lectotypification of D. badspoortense is also proposed.

The parasitic isopod Cinusa tetrodontis Schioedte and Meinert, 1884, is the only species in Cinusa and has one known host, the evil-eye puffer fish, Amblyrhynchotes honckenii. The original Latin description contained many generic or family traits and thus the genus and species are redescribed. A complete revision of the genus was carried out, detailed illustrations of C. tetrodontis are provided and a lectotype designated and deposited in the Zoological Museum, University of Copenhagen.

Two new species of oribatid mites of the previously monotypic genus Ausoribula Lee, 1992 (Oribatulidae) are described from termite nests of South Africa. Ausoribula termitophila n. sp. has a pointed rostrum, elongately fusiform, bothridial setae, a weak anterior notogastral margin which only slightly protrudes into the prodorsum, notogastral setae c2 similar in length to other setae (except shorter c1) and three or four pairs of genital setae. In contrast, A. quagesetosa Lee, 1992 has a rounded rostrum, bothridial setae clavate, and the anterior notogastral margin interrupted and strongly protruding into the prodorsum. Ausoribula bloemfonteinensis n. sp. has a pointed rostrum, clavate bothridial setae, the anterior notogastral margin distinct and only slightly protruding, notogastral setae c2 shorter than other setae (except the shorter c1) and three pairs of genital setae. The genus Ausoribula is recorded in the Ethiopian region for the first time.

The zodariine spider genus Mallinus Simon, 1893 is redescribed and diagnosed. The type species, M.nitidiventris Simon, 1893 from South Africa, was originally described from subadult specimens. Adults of both sexes of M.nitidiventris are described for the first time, based on recently collected material, and the genus is rediagnosed, redescribed, and its relationships discussed. A single aberrant male specimen from Namibia is here described as a morphospecies, as it is presumed to only be superficially related. A second species, M.defectus Strand, 1906 from Tunisia, is considered a ‘species inquirenda’, as the type specimens could not be traced, but this species is in any case unlikely to be congeneric. The genus is one of 10 cases of a monotypic genus in the Zodariidae. Notes are provided on the biology of M.nitidiventris.

Bambalocra intwalagen. et sp. nov. is described from Sodwana Bay, north-eastern South Africa. The monotypic genus is characterised by the broadly truncate anterior margin of the head with a ventral rostrum, coxae 2–5 being ventral in position not forming part of the body outline and not or barely visible in dorsal view, and the posterolateral margins of pereonites 6 and 7 are posteriorly produced and broadly rounded. The antennulae bases are widely separated, with both antennula and antenna slender. The species is known only from the type locality and the known hosts are species of Pomacanthidae (Angelfish). A revised key to the externally attaching genera of Cymothoidae is provided.

Prodidactis Meyrick is a monotypic genus restricted to southern Africa (South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Swaziland). The early stages of P. mystica (Meyrick) are described and illustrated for the first time; the larval host is Nuxia congesta (Loganiaceae). The genus previously has been assigned to Tortricidae, Yponomeutidae, and Limacodidae; however, an examination of larval, pupal, and adult characters contradict these placements. Although evidence from the larval stage places Prodidactis in Crambidae (Pyraloidea), features of the adults convincingly contradict this assignment. As an interim solution, we propose Prodidactidae, new family, to accommodate this unusual genus.

Ng et al. (2010: 252) established a new monotypic genus, Danielita (Crustacea: Decapoda: Brachyura: Ocypodoidea: Camptandriidae), for an unusual species of camptandriid crab from South Africa, Cleistostoma edwardsii MacLeay, 1838. Unfortunately, Danielita Ng, Clark & Tan, 2010, is a junior homonym, being preoccupied by Danielita Kiriakoff, 1970 (Lepidoptera: Glossata: Heteroneura: Noctuoidea: Notodontidae), a genus of moths.
