Abstract. This is my discussion at the 2016 ASA annual meeting of papers by Theda Skocpol, Elisabeth Clemens, and Dylan Riley on the 50th anniversary of Moore's Social Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy. I argue that we need to stop individuating from Moore as the young do with their elders and strike out with the critical questions that are the bequest not of Social Origins, but of the demands that the world places upon us.Cedric de LeonChair and Associate Professor of SociologyProvidence CollegePersonal website: https://providence.academia.edu/CedricdeLeontwitter: @Prof_deLeonBooks by Cedric de Leon:The Origins of Right to Work (Cornell, 2015)http://www.cornellpress.cornell.edu/book/?GCOI=80140100649710Available locally at Books on the Square: http://www.booksq.com/book/9780801453083
