New classification of endometrial cancers: the development and potential applications of genomic-based classification in research and clinical care

This paper aims to present a review of recent progress made on shape memory polymers (SMPs) and their nanocomposites. Developments in allied fields are also presented in an effort to identify the current and future trends in this area. A new classification of SMP—rubberlike and mesomorphic systems—is suggested. The underlying physical mechanisms of shape memory actions, polymer-nanofiller interactions, and the resultant properties of SMP nanocomposites are discussed. Examples are presented to highlight the influence of processing conditions, filler geometry and filler surface characteristics, and the nature of matrix polymers on shape memory properties. A short description of current and potential applications is also presented.

The article highlights certain aspects of the discussion on the topic of reductionism vs. holism in the philosophy of medicine. Classic radical reductionism is defeated by the concept of emergence. The s.c. bio-medical point of view on a malady, despite its relevance and clear benefit, is not recognized as universal as its adherents may claim, and it yields to an integral psycho-bio-social model. The author introduces a new classification of holism (vitalistic, social and individualistic) and makes appropriate recommendations to clinicians. It is social holism at the macro level that has proven effective in combating the spread of COVID-19.
