Two New Species

Margyricarpus pinnatus is a poorly understood entity from natural grasslands of South America that it better considered as a species complex. In this work we contribute to the advancement of the taxonomic knowledge of this challenging species complex by describing two new species of Margyricarpus from southern Brazil. We present field photographs, illustrations, a distribution map and ecologic and conservation notes on the new species.

Two new species of Notogynaphallia Ogren & Kawakatsu, 1990, from South Brazil, are described. Notogynaphallia pseudoceciliae sp. nov. and Notogynaphallia arturi sp. nov., present elongate bodies with parallel margins and the dorsum with five dark longitudinal stripes on a yellowish background. Additionally, N. arturi has two large lateral bands of brown pigment between the paramedian and lateral stripes. Both species, which are appended to a complex of striped species previously described for the genus Notogynaphallia, show a unique combination of characters of external and internal morphology.

Two new species of Nullana DeLong, 1980 are described and illustrated: N. albinoi sp. nov. and N. sakakibarai sp. nov., both from the state of Paraná, Brazil. Two new species of Brazilian Psychoda Latreille are described, and Psychoda alternata Say and P. zetoscota Quate are recorded for the first time from Brazil. Psychoda divaricata Duckhouse, already described from southern Brazil, was recorded in the northeastern part of that country, as well as in the eastern Amazon region. The supraspecific classification proposed for the species of Psychoda according to Quate (= Psychodini of Jeñek) are discussed. A new classification is suggested that considers only one genus, Psychoda, divided into 12 subgenera: subgenus Psychoda Latreille, subgenus Copropsychoda Vaillant, subgenus Falsologima Jeñek & Harten, subgenus Psychodula Jeñek, subgenus Psychomora Jeñek, subgenus Psychana Jeñek & Harten, subgenus Logima Eaton, subgenus Tinearia Schellenberg, subgenus Chodopsycha Jeñek, subgenus Ypsydocha Jeñek, subgenus Psychodocha Jeñek, and subgenus Psycha Jeñek. A list of the Psychoda species from Latin America and the Caribbean region is presented.

Two new species of Leptinopterus are described, both from southern Brazil: L. asketus new species and L. assimilis new species. Two new synonymies are also made; L. rotundicollis Lüderwaldt and L. luederwaldti de Moraes are synonymyzed with L. tibialis (Eschscholtz). The correct identities of two unavailable names are discussed: “L. nitidus ab. lepidus” with L. affinis Parry and “L. elegans ab. catharinensis” with L. gracilis Boileau. For the first time, some natural history notes for five species of Leptinopterus are reported and some information on their behavior is also given. The identity of Leptinopterus gracilis is correctly determined after an examination of a picture of the holotype.

Neoneura anaclara sp. nov. and Neoneura leonardoi sp. nov. are described and illustrated from specimens collected in Southern Brazil. These two species are unique in the genus Neoneura by the structure of their anal appendages.
