Nowadays, simultaneous allocation of renewable distributed generations (REDGs) along with shunt capacitors (SCs) in RDS distribution networks is getting more attention by the researchers. Since it mitigates the system losses, enhance the bus voltages, power factor improvement, power quality enhancement and reduces the environmental threats. In the proposed work an advanced approach is implemented for simultaneous allocation REDGs and SC for Indian 28- rural bus network. For decrease the losses and maximize the system stability  is the  main objective of thispaper. The locations and sizing of theses REDGs and SCs have been determined with help of cuckoo search algorithm (CSA).

Maximizing capacity of distributed generations (DGs) embed into distribution network is a solution to attract investment for DGs installation on the distribution system. This paper introduces a approach of optimizing location and capacity of DGs for maximizing DGs capacity and minimizing the system’s power loss based on cuckoo search algorithm (CSA). The proposed problem and method are simulated on two test systems including the 33-node and 69-node networks. The numerical results have demonstrated that the proposed method not only reduces power losses but also maximizes the power of DGs embed into the distribution network. The results also introduce that the proposed CSA method is better performance that some previous methods in terms of power loss and DGs capacity. The results obtained in many independent runs for two test systems indicate that CSA in one of the reliable methods for the DGs placement problems.

Increasing the possible capacity of distributed generations (DGs) supplying to distribution system (DS) is a highly effective solution to attract the investment of distributed generation (DG) installation in the DS. However, the presence of DGs will affect the technical indicators of the DS. This paper determines solutions of the DG placement problem for maximizing the size of distributed generations (DGs) and improving the technical indicators consisting of power loss reduction, increasing of balance among feeders and balance among branches, and voltage deviation reduction. A max-min method is proposed to combine the membership objective functions. The location and size of DGs are optimized based on an improved cuckoo search algorithm (ICSA). The simulation results for the 84-node system show that the proposed multiobjective problem not only helps to increase the capacity of DGs but also improves the technical factors. Moreover, the DG’s uncertainty is also validated to show its negative impacts on the technical indicators of the DS. Furthermore, ICSA is worthy for finding the optimal solution for the DG placement problem.

Compensating reactive power deficiency on power grids is a central concern in the distribution of energy management systems. Several approaches have been adopted over time to minimize the total real power loss and enhancing bus voltage profile. Shunt capacitor has been used from time immemorial for addressing issue of reactive power compensation at the distribution end of power systems, and the extent of benefits derivable from its usage depend solely on correct siting and sizing. To this effect, meta-heuristic algorithms are promising optimization tools for achieving these objectives. This paper, therefore, presents a comprehensive review of cuckoo search algorithm based on optimal siting and sizing of shunt capacitors in radial distribution systems. The suitability, in addition to strengths and weakness of each approaches reported in the reviewed articles have been painstakingly x-rayed. Based on the review, it was observed that a two-stage approach is always adopted in the compensation process: the pre-selection of potential or sensitive nodes and the optimal sizing of shunt capacitors needed for the compensation. For the pre-location, Voltage Stability Index and Loss Sensitivity Factor were found to be comparatively less complex and highly suitable techniques. Another cogent discovery from this review is that less attention has been drawn to the use of cuckoo search algorithm by Nigerian researchers. Therefore, regarding Nigerian electric grid system, the use of cuckoo search algorithm in reactive power support presents a research gap for further investigations.

This work aims at reduction in active and reactive power loss reduction in distribution networks as well as to improve the voltage stability of the networks. Optimum Distributed Generation (DG) placement and sizing is carried out in conjunction with shunt capacitor placement and sizing to determine the appropriate sizes of DG units and Capacitor banks to be placed in the networks so as not to violate certain constraints. The optimal sizes of the DG units and capacitor banks were obtained on application of a Cuckoo Search Optimization Algorithm while computations for Voltage stability was performed using the Voltage Stability Index (VSI). The obtained optimal sizes of DG units and Capacitors were individually and simultaneously placed on the distribution networks to ascertain the behaviour of the networks prior to and after their placements. The performance factors considered are power loss and voltage stability. A comparison of these performance factors under separate and simultaneous placement method was demonstrated using IEEE 33 and 69 test buses. Result show that power loss (active and reactive) reduced by 63.29% and 59.38% respectively for 33 bus system, with a 74.29% and 79.19% reduction on 69 bus system. Voltage stability also increased by 7.89% and 3.79% respectively for 33 and 69 bus system relative to values obtained for base case and separate DG and shunt capacitor placement. Keywords: Distributed generation, shunt capacitor, Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA), power loss and voltage stability.
