Abstract The ant fauna from the Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari Province of Iran was surveyed. As a result, a total of 28 ant species belonging to 11 genera of Formicidae were collected and identified. Species status is proposed for Messor barbarus subsp. mediosanguineus Donisthorpe, 1946, the species status of Messor platyceras Crawley, 1920 is restored with Messor platyceras var. rubella Crawley, 1920 as a new synonym of the nominotypical form, and Camponotus oasium ninivae Pisarski, 1971 is removed from synonyms of Camponotus oasium Forel, 1890. The genera Messor Forel, 1890, with seven species and Cataglyphis Förster, 1850 with six species, have the highest species richness. Messor mediosanguineus Donisthorpe, 1946, Pheidole koshewnikovi Ruzsky, 1905 and Camponotus oasium ninivae Pisarski, 1971 were recorded in Iran for the first time.

This study is a contribution to the taxonomy of Calyptranthes and to the list of Brazilian species of Myrtaceae. It presents morphological circumscriptions and new records of occurrences for the genus, and proposes a new synonym for C. moaensis Alain. Comments are made on the morphologies of the taxa and identifications of each species are provided, as well as discussions about their taxonomic affinities, geographical distributions, and preferred habitats in the Amazon region. New records include one for the Amazon region and five for Pará State.

Thirteen centiped species and one symphylan are reported from the Galápagos Islands. Hanseniella caldaria (Hansen) is the first symphylan reported from the Galápagos Islands. Among the centipeds, Hemiscolopendra galapagosa Chamberlin is a new synonym of Scolopendra galapagoensis Bollman and should be deleted from the Galápagos list. Cormocephalus andinus Kraepelin, its probable junior synonym C. carolus Chamberlin, and Nannopodellus purpurascens Chamberlin, previously reported from the Galápagos Islands, were not in any collections made from 1974 to the present and may be extinct on the islands. Lamyctes coeculus (Brölemann), Lamyctes fulvicornis Meinert, and Newportia monticola Pocock are new records, and first appear in collections made in 1974. Two new species, Pectiniunguis krausi and Pachymerium perdrai, are described. The former had been misidentified previously as Pectiniunguis albermarlensis Chamberlin. While Pectiniunguis albemarlensis and Scolopendra galapagoensis may be Galápagos endemics, lack of knowledge about the centiped fauna of source areas precludes definitive statements.

A new species of Notocyrtus, N. costai sp. nov. is described from Surinam. Photographs in dorsal and lateral views are provided for this new species. Notocyrtoides Carvalho, Costa & Gil-Santana, 2001, is considered to be a junior synonym of Coilopus Elkins, 1969, with N. tuberculatus Carvalho, Costa & Gil-Santana, 2001, as a junior synonym of C. vellus Elkins, 1969. New occurrences of other Harpactorini species are recorded for the first time from Brazil: Harpactor rhombeus (Erichson, 1848), Orbella exceptio Bérenger, 2007, and Orbella putshkovi Bérenger, 2007; and from Surinam Notocyrtus dorsalis (Gray, 1832). Remarks on the color variation of these species and Notocyrtus ricciae Gil-Santana & Costa, 2001, and Notocyrtus dispersus Carvalho & Costa, 1992, are given.

Masumoto & Okajima (2005) reviewed 12 closely related genera of Thripidae as the Trichromothrips genus-group. In this group they included Octothrips Moulton, of which the type species O. suspensus Moulton (1940) is known only from a single male taken on Cyperus in Papua New Guinea. The only other species described in this genus is O. lygodii Mound (2002), from Lygodium ferns in S.E. Asia. Bhatti (2003) synonymised Apollothrips Wilson (1972), and transferred to Octothrips the two involved species, O. bhattii (Wilson) and O. karnyi (zur Strassen). In this paper, O. lygodii is considered a synonym of O. bhattii and is newly recorded from Taiwan.
