The following article deals with the design and construction of the main dam at the Outardes 4 development. The structure is an earth and rockfill dam reaching a maximum height of 400 ft (~121.9 m). The characteristics of the site, the choice of the type of structure, the principal properties of the materials, the typical cross-section, and stability analysis are either mentioned or described. The construction and control methods are discussed and a brief description of the instrumentation in the dam is also given.
