AbstractThe Co-Pd/SiO2 and Co-Cu/SiO2 catalysts were prepared via solvated metal atom impregnation (SMAI) method and investigated for the Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) synthesis. The catalysts contained 5wt.% Co and a weight ratio of Pd (or Cu) to Co of 1/30. XPS indicated that Co, Pd and Cu were in metallic state. The results of XPS and magnetic measurements showed that Co and Pd (Cu) were alloyed. The Co particles on the catalysts were very highly dispersed and they displayed superparamagnetic behavior. FT-IR indicated that the electrons shifted from Cu and Pd to Co. Catalytic tests showed that CO hydrogenation rates followed the order Pd-Co > Cu-Co > Co.

Activated starch was prepared by ball milling before used. Graft copolymerization of acrylamide onto activated starch was carried out in inverse emulsion using a redox initiation system of ammonium persulfate and sodium bisulfite. The effects of ball-milling time, reaction temperature, initiator concentration and weight ratio of acrylamide to starch on the conversion of monomer, grafting percentage and grafting efficiency were studied. The structure and properties of the graft copolymer and activated starch were characterized by FT-IR, XRD and SEM. The results showed that ball milling could progressively destroy the crystalline structure of starch and improve the chemical reactivity. The monomer conversion, grafting percentage and grafting efficiency of grate copolymerization were 96.6%、62.4%、85.49%, respectively.

The syntheses of 4-[4-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-2-imidazoline-3-oxide-1-oxyl-2-yl)phenoxy]phthalonitrile (3, C21H19N4O3) and 4-[4-(4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-2-imidazoline-1-oxyl-2-yl)phenoxy]phthalonitrile (4) were carried out by microwave-assisted nucleophilic aromatic substitution of 4-nitrophthalonitrile (2) by the pre-formed 2-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-2-imidazoline-3-oxide-1-oxyl (1). Compounds 3 and 4 were characterized unambiguously by a rich array of analyses, such as melting point, FT–IR, MALDI–TOF MS, elemental analysis, UV–Vis, CV, EPR, magnetic measurements and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Structural studies demonstrate that the C—H...X and C—X...π (X = O and N) interactions in the radical nitronyl nitroxide groups play an important role in the assembly of the crystal structures. Moreover, cyclic voltammetry analyses show that the phthalonitrile substituent retains the redox properties of the Ullman radicals.
