AbstractAspergillipeptide D is a cyclic pentapeptide isolated from the marine gorgonian Melitodes squamata-derived fungus Aspergillus sp. SCSIO 41501 that it has been shown to present moderate activity against herpes virus simplex type 1 (HSV-1). Thus, this paper presents the results of a computational study of this cyclopentapeptide’s chemical reactivity and bioactivity properties using a CDFT-based computational peptidology (CDFT-CP) methodology, which is derived from combining chemical reactivity descriptors derived from Conceptual Density Functional Theory (CDFT) and some Cheminformatics tools which may be used. This results in an improvement of the virtual screening procedure by a similarity search allowing the identification and validation of the known ability of the peptide to act as a possible useful drug. This was followed by an examination of the drug’s bioactivity and pharmacokinetics indices in relation to the ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity) characteristics. The findings provide further evidence of the MN12SX density functional’s superiority in proving the Janak and Ionization Energy theorems using the proposed KID approach. This has proven to be beneficial in accurately predicting CDFT reactivity characteristics, which aid in the understanding of chemical reactivity. The Computational Pharmacokinetics study revealed the potential ability of Aspergillipeptide D as a therapeutic drug through the interaction with different target receptors. The ADMET indices confirm this assertion through the absence of toxicity and good absorption and distribution properties.

The cannabinoid receptors (CB1/CB2) and the T-type calcium channels are involved in disorders associated with both physiological pain and depressive behaviors. Valuable pharmacological species carbazole derivatives such as the NMP-4, NMP-7, and NMP-181 (Neuro Molecular Production) regulate both biological entities. In this work, DFT calculations were performed to characterize theoretically their structural and chemical reactivity properties using the BP86/cc-pVTZ level of theory. The molecular orbital contributions and the chemical reactivity analysis reveal that a major participation of the carbazole group is in the donor-acceptor interactions of the NMP compounds. The DFT analysis on the NMP compounds provides insights into the relevant functional groups involved during the ligand-receptor interactions. Molecular docking analysis is used to reveal possible sites of interaction of the NMP compounds with the Cav3.2 calcium channel. The interaction energy values and reported experimental evidence indicate that the site denominated as “Pore-blocking”, which is formed mainly by hydrophobic residues and the T586 residue, is a probable binding site for the NMP compounds.

Silver nanoparticles are one of the most extensively studied nanomaterials due to their high stability and low chemical reactivity in comparison to other metals. They are commonly synthesized using toxic chemical reducing agents which reduce metal ions into uncharged nanoparticles. However, in the last few decades, several efforts were made to develop green synthesis methods to avoid the use of hazardous materials. The natural biomolecules found in plants such as proteins/enzymes, amino acids, polysaccharides, alkaloids, alcoholic compounds, and vitamins are responsible for the formation of silver nanoparticles. The green synthesis of silver nanoparticles is an eco-friendly approach, which should be further explored for the potential of different plants to synthesize nanoparticles. In the present review we describe the green synthesis of nanoparticles using plants, bacteria, and fungi and the role of plant metabolites in the synthesis process. Moreover, the present review also describes some applications of silver nanoparticles in different aspects such as antimicrobial, biomedicine, mosquito control, environment and wastewater treatment, agricultural, food safety, and food packaging.

In the present study, pyrazole-thiophene-based amide derivatives were synthesized by different methodologies. Here, 5-Bromothiophene carboxylic acid (2) was reacted with substituted, unsubstituted, and protected pyrazole to synthesize the amide. It was observed that unsubstituted amide (5-bromo-N-(5-methyl-1H-pyrazol-3-yl)thiophene-2-carboxamide (7) was obtained at a good yield of about 68 percent. The unsubstituted amide (7) was arylated through Pd (0)-catalyzed Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling, in the presence of tripotassium phosphate (K3PO4) as a base, and with 1,4-dioxane as a solvent. Moderate to good yields (66–81%) of newly synthesized derivatives were obtained. The geometry of the synthesized compounds (9a–9h) and other physical properties, like non-linear optical (NLO) properties, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and other chemical reactivity descriptors, including the chemical hardness, electronic chemical potential, ionization potential, electron affinity, and electrophilicity index have also been calculated for the synthesized compounds. In this study, DFT calculations have been used to investigate the electronic structure of the synthesized compounds and to compute their NMR data. It was also observed that the computed NMR data manifested significant agreement with the experimental NMR results. Furthermore, compound (9f) exhibits a better non-linear optical response compared to all other compounds in the series. Based on frontier molecular orbital (FMO) analysis and the reactivity descriptors, compounds (9c) and (9h) were predicted to be the most chemically reactive, while (9d) was estimated to be the most stable among the examined series of compounds.

Hemp concrete is a well-known bio-based building material, but due to its relatively low compressive strength is mainly used as an insulation material with a load-bearing wooden frame. There are possibilities to expand hemp concrete application in construction by substituting traditional lime with magnesium cement. Magnesium oxychloride cement is a material already known for some time and nowadays used in building board production. Strength, lightweight, ease of use are advantages that highlight relatively new magnesium oxychloride type boards compared to traditional sheeting materials such as plywood, gypsum plasterboard and fibre-cement board. Therefore, similar parameters are thought to be reached by producing magnesium oxychloride hemp board. In this work, magnesium cement water resistance was studied and possibilities to improve it was examined by adding fly ash and nanosilica. Among the nanomaterials used in building materials, nanosilica has gained significant interest by performing a beneficial effect in improving the mechanical properties of concretes. In addition, due to its ultrafine size and high chemical reactivity, the performance of nanosilica is much better with a lower amount of admixture required. Results show that applied nanosilica slightly reduced the compressive strength of magnesium cement in a dry state, but at the same time significantly increased its water resistance. Hemp magnesium oxychloride cement board prototype samples were produced and demonstrate promising results for further manufacturing of hemp composite boards.

Bromination of high-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) nanodiamond (ND) surfaces has not been explored and can open new avenues for increased chemical reactivity and diamond lattice covalent bond formation. The large bond dissociation energy of the diamond lattice-oxygen bond is a challenge that prevents new bonds from forming and most researchers simply use oxygen-terminated ND (alcohols and acids) as a reactive species. In this work, we transformed a tertiary alcohol-rich ND surface to an amine surface with 50% surface coverage and was limited by the initial rate of bromination. We observed that alkyl-bromide moieties are highly labile on NDs and are metastable as previously found using density functional theory. The instability of the bromine terminated ND is explained by steric hindrance and poor surface energy stabilization. The strong leaving group properties of the alkyl-bromide intermediate were found to form diamond-nitrogen bonds at room temperature and without catalysts. The chemical lability of the brominated ND surface led to efficient amination with NH3•THF at 298 K, and a catalyst-free Sonogashira-type reaction with an alkyne-amine produced an 11-fold increase in amination rate. Overlapping spectroscopies under inert, temperature-dependent and open-air conditions provided unambiguous chemical assignments. Amine-terminated NDs and folic acid were conjugated using sulfo-NHS/EDC coupling reagents to form amide bonds, confirming that standard amine chemistry remains viable. This work supports that a robust pathway exists to activate a chemically inert diamond surface at room temperature, which broadens the pathways of bond formation when a reactive alkyl-bromide surface is prepared. The unique surface properties of brominated and aminated nanodiamond reported here are impactful to researchers who wish to chemically tune diamond for quantum sensing applications or as an electron source for chemical transformations.

Characterization of materials infer for physical and chemical properties that depend on its molecular structure. Structure of molecule has its dependence on respective electrons of molecule under consideration occupying their positions that correspond to changes in density of electrons. Many theories of its kind were developed to study density of electrons with roots from wavefunction method and electron density method. Wavefunction method has its dependence with linear combination of atomic orbitals, Born approximation, variational principle ,potential energy surfaces for development of Huckel theory, Hartree fock self-consistent theory. Electron density method includes Ab-intio method and density functional theory is possible with Kohenberbg-Kohn existence theorem and Kohn Sham formalism. Density functional studies has diverted attention of researches for properties dependent on structure with use of quantum mechanical descriptors that influence chemical reactivity of molecule forming complexes with properties responsible for electrooptical activity. In the present work complexes with p-anisaldehyde were studied with set of anilines using Gaussian 16 package with B3LYP method. Studies in present work were analyzed from computed infrared spectra responsible for formation of complexes with shifts in wavenumbers; quantum mechanical descriptors for electronic properties. A feature of study is that complexes with p-nitroaniline have greater tendency influence on electronic properties responsible for electrooptical activity due to electrophilic nature.
