Let ${\mathcal{F}}_{g}^{\mathbf{N}}$ be the moduli space of polarized Nikulin surfaces $(Y,H)$ of genus $g$ and let ${\mathcal{P}}_{g}^{\mathbf{N}}$ be the moduli of triples $(Y,H,C)$ , with $C\in |H|$ a smooth curve. We study the natural map $\unicode[STIX]{x1D712}_{g}:{\mathcal{P}}_{g}^{\mathbf{N}}\rightarrow {\mathcal{R}}_{g}$ , where ${\mathcal{R}}_{g}$ is the moduli space of Prym curves of genus $g$ . We prove that it is generically injective on every irreducible component, with a few exceptions in low genus. This gives a complete picture of the map $\unicode[STIX]{x1D712}_{g}$ and confirms some striking analogies between it and the Mukai map $m_{g}:{\mathcal{P}}_{g}\rightarrow {\mathcal{M}}_{g}$ for moduli of triples $(Y,H,C)$ , where $(Y,H)$ is any genus $g$ polarized $K3$ surface. The proof is by degeneration to boundary points of a partial compactification of ${\mathcal{F}}_{g}^{\mathbf{N}}$ . These represent the union of two surfaces with four even nodes and effective anticanonical class, which we call half Nikulin surfaces. The use of this degeneration is new with respect to previous techniques.

In the paper [12] Shcherbak studied some duality properties of projective curves and applied them to obtain information concerning central projections of surfaces in projective three space. He also states some interesting results relating the contact of a generic surface with lines and the contact of its dual with lines in the dual space. In this paper we extend this duality to cover non-generic surfaces. Our proof is geometric, and uses deformation theory. The basic idea is the following. Given a surface X in projective 3-space we can consider the lines tangent to X, and measure their contact. The points on the surface with a line yielding at least 4-point contact are classically known as the flecnodal. (The reason is that the tangent plane meets the surface in a nodal curve, one branch of which has an inflexion at the point in question; see Proposition 7 below. The line in question is the inflexional tangent, which is clearly asymptotic.)

We prove by the Hilbert–Mumford criterion that a slope stable polarized weighted pointed nodal curve is Chow asymptotic stable. This generalizes the result of Caporaso on stability of polarized nodal curves and of Hassett on weighted pointed stable curves polarized by the weighted dualizing sheaves. It also solves a question raised by Mumford and Gieseker, to prove the Chow asymptotic stability of stable nodal curves by the Hilbert–Mumford criterion.

Timber-concrete composite beams are a new type of structural element that is environmentally friendly. The structural efficiency of this kind of beam highly depends on the stiffness of the interlayer connection. The structural efficiency of the composite was evaluated by experimental and theoretical investigations performed on the relative horizontal slip and vertical uplift along the interlayer between composite’s timber and concrete slab. Differential equations were established based on a theoretical analysis of combination effects of interlayer slip and vertical uplift, by using deformation theory of elastics. Subsequently, the differential equations were solved and the magnitude of uplift force at the interlayer was obtained. It was concluded that the theoretical calculations were in good agreement with the results of experimentation.

The paper researches the free vibration of a rectangular plate with one or more cracks. The plate thickness varies along the x-axis with linear rules. Using Shi's third-order shear deformation theory and phase field theory to set up the equilibrium equations, which are solved by finite element methods. The frequency of free vibration plates is calculated and compared with the published articles, the agreement between the results is good. Then, the paper will examine the free vibration frequency of plate depending on the change of the plate thickness ratio, the length of cracks, the number of cracks, the location of cracks and different boundary conditions
