In order to solve the problem of insufficient energy supply of the on-line monitoring device of the transmission line, a sensor energy acquisition scheme directly installed on the transmission line is proposed. In the current power supply, induction power supply is a kind of energy extraction method with better practical applicability. Since the monitoring devices and electronic equipment on the transmission line are often in a strong magnetic field and high voltage environment, designing a stable and reliable power supply is the guarantee for the stable operation of the monitoring devices and electronic equipment. This paper presents a structure of energy-absorbing iron core with two semi-circular magnetic cores, and studies the magnetic saturation problem in the inductive power supply and the design of the DC output circuit.

Over the last two decades, prevalent technologies and Internet of Things (IoT) systems have been found to have potential for carrying out environmental monitoring. The data generated from these infrastructures are readily available and have the potential to provide massive spatial coverage. The costs involved in using these data are minimal since the records are already generated for the original uses of these systems. Commercial microwave links, which provide the underlying framework for data transfer between cellular network base stations, are one example of such a system and have been found useful for monitoring rainfall. Wireless infrastructure of this kind is deployed widely by communication providers across Africa and can thus be used as a rainfall monitoring device to complement the sparse proprietary resources that currently exist or to substitute for them where alternatives do not exist. Here we focus this approach’s potential to acquire valuable information required for agricultural needs across Africa using Kenya as an example.

Ice accretion has been a huge threat for the stable operation of transmission line. Icing monitoring devices used presently are active sensors with low working stability. Signals are transmitted in the electrical form, which are easily affected by the electromagnetic interference. In this paper, an online icing monitoring device of transmission line based on fiber bragg grating (FBG) sensor is designed, and is operated as a pilot unit on the 44# tower of 110kV Zhenzou line. Experimental results show that the online icing monitoring device operates stably, and the designed fiber bragg grating sensor has high linearity, good sensitivity and high accuracy.
