Focusing on the design of sub-assemble intelligent production line, an event-driven design method for production line was proposed. With the method, the manufacturing activity was defined as event, and then the relationships among events are analysed to define the input-output and execution behaviours digitally in each stage. Furthermore, the event-driven execution mechanism for multi-stage process was built to describe the production line in digital. The digital model of production line was conducted to explore the event behaviours, which will support the research about data-driven production line simulation in future work.

The optimized maintenance strategy of multi-stage production line is influenced by device processing ways, parts process plan and equipment deterioration process and other factors. Moreover, the production processes of parts exist constraint relationship. Based machining process plan of complex parts, the order relations of its operation processes is analyzed; the optimized multi-stage production line maintenance model is constructed with multiple objectives including production time, maintenance time, production cost and maintenance cost; the genetic algorithm is used to solve the model, and the Monte Carlo method is applied to carry out the simulation computation for fitness function of chromosome of genetic algorithm; the results give the maintenance threshold of each equipment of the line, their configurations and allocation of the various operation processes of parts at the same time. Finally, an example is presented to prove the effectiveness.

To control the cost and optimize the resource utilization of enterprises, production layout problem draws recently more and more attention by industries; however, a study on this problem indicates there is a lack of research on production line design, which is a major issue in the layout problem. Traditional methodology mainly depends on the designer’s experience and calls for theory analysis and quantitative study. This paper concerns the development of a multi-stage integer programming model to describe the production line layout problem, and employs a heuristic and ant-colony algorithm to solve the problem. A practical example illustrates the effectiveness of the model.
