Aristolochia yachangensis B.G.Huang, Yan Liu & Y.S.Huang, a new species from limestone areas in Guangxi, China, is described and illustrated. It is morphologically most similar to A. fangchi Y.C.Wu ex L.D.Chow & S.M.Hwang, A. petelotii O.C. Schmidt and A. championii Merr. & Chun in shape of leaf blade, anther, gynostemium and inflorescence on old woody stems. However, it can be easily distinguished from the latter by shape of inflorescence, length of upper and lower portions of perianth tube, colour of the limb and throat. A table and a key to distinguish the new species from other morphologically similar Aristolochia species are also provided.

Aspidistra louchengensis (Asparagaceae) is described and illustrated from limestone areas in northern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. It is similar to A. obconica C.R.Lin & Yan Liu with the perianth obconical campanulate, stamens inserted at upper third of perianth tube, but it can be clearly distinguished by leaf blade narrower and longer, perigone lobes longer (6–8 mm), adaxial densely papillose and scabrous, apex acuminate and outcurved, and stigma upper surface slightly concave. This new species is only known from Luocheng Mulao Autonomous County in Guangxi, China.

Aspidistra latistyla, (Asparagaceae), a new Chinese species, is described and illustrated here. This new species is similar to A. longipetala in the shape of the flowers, but can be clearly distinguished by its taller leaves, the perianth lobes shorter than tube, stamens inserted in the upper-middle of perianth tube and the stigma cylindrical, 8–10 mm long, 7–9 mm in diameter.

Gastrodia Brown (1810: 330; Gastrodieae, Epidendroideae) comprises mycoheterotrophic orchids from throughout the temperate and tropical regions of Asia, Oceania, Madagascar and Africa (Chung & Hsu 2006, Cribb et al. 2010, Tan et al. 2012). The genus is characterized by fleshy tubers, as well as the absence of normal leaves, union of sepals and petals and two mealy pollinia that lack caudicles. Furthermore, many Gastrodia species within section Codonanthus (Schlechter 1911, Tuyama 1967) produce inflorescences that are only 3–15 cm in length at flowering (Chung & Hsu 2006) and, owing to their short flowering seasons and dwarf habits, are seldom noticed when flowering (Tuyama 1982, Suetsugu et al. 2012). The identification of Gastrodia species requires detailed observation of floral features, such as lip and column morphology, that are hidden within the perianth tube.

Paradrymonia vivianensis R. Rojas & M. M. Mora (Gesneriaceae), a new species discovered in the Chambirillo sector of Cordillera Azul National Park, Peru, is described and illustrated. Paradrymonia vivianensis differs from other members of the genus mainly by its leaves with the leaf blade elliptical to obovate, purplish green above and uniformly purple below, the base subcordate and slightly asymmetric, the margin crenate, and the midvein and secondary veins contrasting yellowish green above.

Discovery of populations south of Elandshaai of a small-flowered plant closely allied to Babiana ringens led to a critical re-evaluation of this sunbird-pollinated Western Cape species. We conclude that these populations represent a new species, B. avicularis, recognized by long, arching, subterete leaves, and flowers with the lower part of the perianth tube sigmoid and ± 4 mm long, a dorsal tepal 15-18 mm long, pale green lower tepals directed forward, and a style dividing below the bases of the anthers. In addition, the southern coastal populations of B. ringens merit recognition as a separate subsp. australis, recognized by the smaller flower, filaments not reaching the apex of the dorsal tepal and the style dividing at or below the bases of the anthers. Field work along the Western Cape coast also resulted in the discovery of a new species, B. teretifolia, allied to the distinctive B. brachystachys but differing from that species in the linear, spreading, twisted tepals, filaments 12 mm long, white anthers 5.5-6.0 mm long, and the style dividing opposite the anther tips, with branches ± 5 mm long and notched at the tips.

Guihaia heterosquama X. Y. Li, a new species from Chongqing, China, is described and illustrated. Guihaia heterosquama is similar to G. grossifibrosa and G. argyrata both in the shape of the leaf blade and flower structure, but it can be easily distinguished by its leaf scales, leaf sheath fibers and hastula. Notably, Guihaia heterosquama differs from all the reported species of Guihaia by the presence of a distinct pistillode in the male flower.

The genus Aspidistra is the most diverse in southern China and northern Vietnam. We describe a new species Aspidistra xuansonensis from northern Vietnam including two varieties: A. xuansonensis var. xuansonensis with greenish white perianth and A. xuansonensis var. violiflora with purple perianth. We present DNA barcoding data of plastid psbA-trnH and nuclear 5SNTS regions for these two varieties in comparison with three other species of Aspidistra. Morphology of monopodial shoots of A. xuansonensis is described in detail. A. xuansonensis resembles recently described A. lingyunensis but differs in longer leaf petioles, longer lamina, perianth tube shape (tubular, widened at the base vs. funnel-shaped), higher anther position, and pistil shape (suddenly obconic to nearly umbrella-shaped vs. obconic gradually widened to stigma).

Primulina rubribracteata Z.L. Ning & M. Kang, a new species of Gesneriaceae from southern Hunan, China, is described and illustrated. The new species morphologically resembles P. polycephala (Chun) Mich. Möller & A. Weber and P. porphyria X.L. Yu & Ming Li, but it can be easily distinguished by having ovate or broadly ovate leaf blade, purple red bracts and calyx, shorter peduncle and pedicel, thoroughly purple corolla, unbranched cymes with 1–4 flowers, and densely glandular pubescent inside corolla lobes.

Youngia baoxingensis (Asteraceae, Cichorieae), a new species from Baoxing in Sichuan, China, is described and illustrated. This species belongs to Youngia sect. Mesomeris and is similar to Y. yilingii, but is distinct by its oblong and subentire leaf blade, brown pappus, and 6–7 florets.

Byrsonima delicatula, a new species of Malpighiaceae endemic to Roraima State, northern Brazil, is described and illustrated. Byrsonima delicatula is most similar to B. intermedia, from which it is distinguished by leaf blade and ovary pubescence, and stipule, bract, and bracteole length.
