Two species of the genus Furcaperla Sivec 1988 (in: Sivec et al. 1988), F. bifurcata (Wu, 1948) and F. jiangxiensis Yang & Yang, 1991 are illustrated and redescribed. The taxonomic relationship of F. bifurcata and F. jiangxiensis is discussed. An unassociated female from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Furcaperla Cn-G is described under informal designation. The first record for F. jiangxiensis from Fujian Province is given.

In this paper, one new species is described from Yunnan province viz. Metriogryllacris (Metriogryllacris) nigrilimbis Liu & Bian sp. nov.. Based on the specimens from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the morphological characters of Metriogryllacris (Metriogryllacris) permodesta (Griffini, 1914) are provided. All specimens are deposited in Guangxi Normal University.

Background Microscopic polyangiitis (MPA) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation of small- and medium-sized blood vessels. Autophagy-related protein polymorphisms are involved in autoimmune disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the ULK1 and PIK3CA genes on the risk of MPA. Method A total of 208 patients with MPA and 211 controls in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region were recruited and analyzed. The SNPs selected were detected by polymerase chain reaction and high-throughput sequencing. The differences in allele and genotype frequency, various genetic models, and stratification analyses were evaluated, haplotype evaluation was performed after linkage disequilibrium analysis, and the interaction between gene alleles was analyzed. Results A statistically significant difference was detected in the genotypic distribution of two SNPs between the two groups: ULK1 rs4964879 (p = 0.019) and PIK3CA rs1607237 (p = 0.002). The results of the genetic models revealed that ULK1 rs4964879 and rs9481 were statistically significantly associated with an increased risk of MPA, whereas PIK3CA rs1607237 was associated with a reduced risk. The association between SNPs and MPA risk was affected by age, sex, and ethnicity. The ULK1 haplotype (G-T-A-C-G-A) and PIK3CA haplotype (T-G) were associated with a reduced risk of MPA, while the PIK3CA haplotype (C-G) was associated with an increased risk. Conclusion In this study, polymorphisms in the autophagy-related genes ULK1 and PIK3CA and their association with MPA were examined. The results showed that the polymorphisms in ULK1 (rs4964879 and rs9481) and PIK3CA (rs1607237) were significantly associated with MPA risk in the Guangxi population. However, the molecular mechanisms are still unclear; basic science research and studies with larger samples are needed to confirm our conclusions and explore the underlying mechanisms.

Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) is one of the primary pathogenic contaminants of foods, contributing to several foodborne outbreaks in recent years. Here, we report the complete genome sequences of two non-O157 STEC strains isolated from an outbreak of diarrhea in the city of Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China.

Three new species of the genus Guiodytes Tian, 2013 are described from the limestone caves of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, southern China: Guiodytes weii Huang & Faille sp. nov. and Guiodytes yueliangensis Huang & Tian sp. nov. from Dapo Dong and Huang Dong caves, respectively, in Huanjiang County, northernmost Guangxi; Guiodytes inexpectatus Tian & Zhou sp. nov. from the Zhuzhu Dong cave in Longzhou County, southwestern Guangxi. All of the six known species of Guiodytes are endemic to Guangxi, ranging from the southwest to the northernmost. A modified key to species and a distribution map for Guiodytes are provided.

Species of the genus Cerconychia (Plecoptera: Pteronarcyoidea: Styloperlidae) are reviewed. A new species, C. multiseta sp. nov. is described from Cenwanglaoshan Mountain of western Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China. The new species is compared with related congeners. Complementary description or brief taxonomic comments are presented for C. brunnea Klapálek, 1913, C. flectospina Wu, 1962, C. livida Klapálek, 1913, C. sinensis Yang & Yang, 1995 and C. trilobata Mo, Yao, Wang & Li, 2019.

Two new nemourid species, Amphinemura meizhouensis sp. n. and A. tulipa sp. n., are described from Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, respectively. Four larvae of the stonefly subfamily Amphinemurinae, A. bifascia Mo, Wang, Yang & Li, 2020, A. hamiornata Li & Yang, 2008, A. yao Mo, Yang, Wang & Li, 2017, and Indonemoura scalprata (Li & Yang, 2007) are described and illustrated on the basis of recently collected specimens from southern China. The female adult of A. hamiornata is also described from the type locality. Both new species are typical members of the A. sinensis (Wu, 1926) species group and the taxonomic relationships are discussed with related congeners.

Two new species, Flavoperla retusata Mo, Li & Wang, sp. nov. and F. yangi Mo, Li & Murányi, sp. nov. are proposed from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of southern China. Distinctness of the new species is based on morphological characters and DNA sequence comparisons with their closest known relative, F. galerispina Mo, Wang & Li, 2020. The taxonomic relationships of the two new species and related congeners are discussed.
