An experimental prototype system has undergone preliminary field-testing and has confirmed the feasibility of applying a controlled, continuous pattern of darts to a large target area. At certain sites, monitored for over a year, healthy seedlings have developed in groups of air-dropped darts. The tests indicate that satisfactory ground penetration may be achieved by at least half the darts dropped, but that success rates in establishing seedlings will depend heavily upon specific factors associated with site, season, weather and the composition of the dart's contents. Greatly improved success rates may be obtainable through systematic research concentrated on these variables.
