Haule's “ultimacy” concept is critiqued in this reaction in terms of its usefulness in defining the soul, salvation, relationship, and life. Ultimacy is understood as an experience of the immortal. “Immortality experience” is then examined in the light of its promotion of therapeutic presence, its relation to a Christian value perspective, its place in social interaction, and its significance for everyday living.
