First possession is a common heuristic people use to solve property conflicts. Previous studies examined whether young children judged ownership based on the first possession heuristic and its stability when conflicting with other cues such as labor, but few focused on the effects in the discovery context. In this study, we used two discovery stories which indicate the discovered object was not owned by anyone beforehand and investigated ownership reasoning with the first possession heuristic in Chinese 3- to 6-year-old preschoolers. By pitting the first possession cue against the labor cue, we investigated the stability of the first possession heuristic in young children’s ownership reasoning. The results showed that in the condition where there was only the first possession cue, both the younger and older groups used the first possession heuristic to reason about ownership. However, in the labor condition, 5- and 6-year-olds ceased to support the first possessor and turned to assign objects to the laborer, whereas 3-year-old children still insisted on the first possession heuristic (Study 1 and Study 2). Children across four age groups did not assign ownership to the person who just played with the object but did not modify it (Study 2). The results demonstrate that Chinese preschoolers understand the role of first possession in ownership assignment at an early age in the discovery context but the elderly preschoolers do not rely on the first possession cue when there are conflicting cues such as labor.

The intention of this heuristic study was to explore and discover the essence of the positive influence of the natural environment on the human spirit. The study quest was identified as a central concern that evolved from my personal experience of spiritual awakening in the natural environment and an interest in the concept of connectedness in nursing care and practice. The study also focused on the self of the nurse and the qualities of holistic nursing care. Guided by heuristic methodology developed by Moustakas (1990) the thesis traces a journey of discovery. Using conversational interviews, six nurses were asked to describe their experiences of their spirit being positively influenced in the natural environment. These nurses were also asked if these beneficial experiences had any flow-on effect to their nursing practice. From these interviews various commonalities of experience were identified as well as some experiences unique to the individual participants. The participant knowing was articulated using Reed’s (1992) dimensions of relatedness in spirituality as a framework. Reed describes these dimensions as being able to be experienced intrapersonally, interpersonally and transpersonally. A substantive body of nursing and non-nursing literature was explored to support the participant knowing and provide strength to the discussion. The study discovered that the human spirit is positively influenced in the natural environment. The three actions of personal healing and wellbeing in the natural environment, knowing self – knowing others and sustaining self in nursing practice were valued by the participants as contributing to the quality of their nursing care. In bringing together spirituality, the natural environment and nursing, holism was discovered to be the significant and connecting constituent. The study has some implications for the discipline of nursing that are also discussed.

Right to live, equity and social justice are watch words that determine quality of life in a society. There is always a fight between the haves and have nots’, in the end the powerful would not only prevail in the society but dominate the have nots’ to the utter dismay of the social thinkers (1). Question arises whether films and film songs address the issue of social inequality and voice against the sufferings of the lowest rung of the people of Tamil Society? In his scholarly article Robert L Hardgrave states that “Film had become increasingly pervasive in almost all aspects of Tamil society and perhaps most prominently in political life”. He also states that “although Bombay is usually considered the capital of the Indian film world, it is within south India that film has made its greatest impact (2).

The article substantiated the feasibility of using heuristic technologies of studying at the foreign language lessons. The characteristics and peculiarities of heuristic development of material in a foreign language are investigated: the ability independently to define the purpose, tasks, methods of independent educational work, creatively rethink and transform the acquired knowledge and methods of cognitive activity, the ability to create their own educational products (original new knowledge and methods of activity) and to evaluate adequately the process and results of independent cognitive activity. It is noted that heuristic study of a foreign language has a positive effect on the formation of students’ communicative competencies, as it increases their motivation and cognitive activity, relieves tension at the lesson, promotes equal dialogue interaction between subjects of study, facilitates the perception of material, etc. To measure how successfully the formation of students’ communicative competencies was, diagnostic and evaluation complex had been developed through the identification of the quality of their main educational products (reports, dialogues, presentations, etc.) Their quantity and quality become an indicator of the forming of these competencies and creative self-realization in general. Such products are a more motivated goal for them than simply mastering knowledge and skills with their little (if any) further application. The product reflects both mastered knowledge, skills and characteristics of communicative activity. In heuristic learning, the product is the purpose of activity, and motives, knowledge and skills are means to achieve such a goal. It is fundamentally important that without the presence of personal significance of the material being studied, one cannot hope for its development (rethinking, transformation, etc.) at the level of personality. This is essence and complexity of the heuristic approach to learning, because modern society, market relations are not satisfied with the knowledge which is simply remembered. Therefore, there is a need to consider the formation of communicative competencies of medical students from the positions of personally oriented heuristic education. It is proved that heuristic organization of studying a foreign language and its leading component – cognitive and creative independent work – becomes a significant factor in the successful formation and improvement of students’ communication competencies, if they implement a didactically grounded complex of specially selected heuristic methods and prepared tasks necessary for performing independent creative activities oriented to successful professional activity and future doctors’ personal professional development.

The chapter presents results from a qualitative phenomenological heuristic study of the perceptions of historical trauma across Native American nations. Historical trauma has been established as a by-product of cultural and physical suppression. Cultural psychology details the impact of an individual's culture on the psychological development of the individual. Therefore, by examining the change to the culture that resulted in historical trauma, determination could be made regarding how the individual was impacted. This research addressed these contentions by interviewing Native American persons from the Eastern and Northern nations of North America and Canada and determined how historical trauma had influenced their psychological development via symptoms they experienced. The research identified several areas that differed from the extant literature regarding the Eastern and Northern nations.

Over time, the CAN (Controller Area Network) communication bus has been implemented in different technological sectors, within which, depending on the application, the bus implementation may change. On the other hand, the design and implementation of digital controls based on experimental data is a well-known topic in the automation industry where the acquisition system is of great importance. In this document, a heuristic study of the behavior of a Full CAN network is reported to implement digital controllers in two interconnected control loops. This study takes into account the access time to the bus and the amount of data sent when observing the response to disturbances. The design of two digital controllers is presented based on the parametric identification of two plants: a DC motor with an electromagnetic brake and a pneumatic levitator. Using PSoC® microcontrollers, a Full CAN network is implemented, where the digital controllers exchange data by randomly accessing the bus. A specially designed interface allows visualizing the speed and amount of data transferred under different operating conditions of the control loops. At the document end, the experimental data obtained are discussed.

Abstract. This research was about Balinese pop song which was Semiotic Heuristic study. The research underlined was the fact that occurred in the Balinese popular songs as a part of the literary work featured new vocabularies as well as old vocabularies modification and also a combination of vocabularies from other languages such as Indonesian and English, considered as the "Deviate" composition from the rules of standard grammar and literary conventions. The purpose of this research was to describe the phenomenon of linguistic structure in Balinese popular song texts and the philosophical meaning of the texts Balinese popular song based on semiotic-heuristic analysis. To be able to describe these purposes, semiotic theory and structuralism were used. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The data source was derived from two texts of Balinese popular songs entitled “Suksma Hyang Widhi” by Dek Ulik” and "Bungan Sandat" by AA Made Cakra. Both of these popular songs used different styles. The song of "Bungan Sandat" mostly used words based on the rules of language and literature that was, poetic. While the song titled "Suksma Hyang Widhi” mostly used a lot of ordinary words such as language used in daily life. There appeared some deviate words found out of the rules of grammar or literary conventions; however there were also words appropriately right based on the rules of language and literature, namely poetic, romantic, by symbolic and philosophical language styles. Based on the result analysis of those two songs heuristically towards the two texts of Balinese Pop songs were found the existence of violations of linguistic rules both grammatically, syntagmatically, paradigmatically, semantically and composition of these two Balinese popular songs. Keywords: the text of balinese popular song, semiotic-heuristi, philosophical meaning
