Abstract Yttrium-90 (Y-90) trans-arterial radioembolization (TARE) is used in the management of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). During the last 5 years, dosimetry software has been developed to allow for a more rigorous approach of dose prescription in Y-90 TARE. We present here a case study of a 77-year-old woman diagnosed with HCC, who underwent a Y-90 TARE as a bridge procedure to liver resection. This clinical scenario represents a unique opportunity to illustrate the predictive value of dosimetric findings correlating dosimetry with pathological findings. In this case, Y-90 TARE dosimetry was predictive of treatment response in which the tumor received a mean dose of 156 Gy and demonstrated a complete pathologic response.

Most patients with advanced or recurrent uterine sarcoma experience disease progression and ultimately die. We present a case of uterine sarcoma with lung metastasis treated with systemic chemotherapy and with no evidence of disease for more than 5 years. A 77-year-old woman underwent total abdominal hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for carcinosarcoma of the uterus followed by external pelvic radiotherapy. Ten months later, the tumor recurred in the apex of the vagina and was treated with brachytherapy. After 6 months of remission, she presented with pulmonary metastasis. After four cycles of systemic chemotherapy with cisplatin and ifosfamide, the pulmonary nodules completely disappeared. Currently she is still in complete remission after more than 5 years, but unfortunately she has developed myelodysplastic syndrome. This is the first reported case in the literature of cured metastatic uterine carcinosarcoma to lungs, with long-term survival of 5 years.

Introduction. Primary hypopharynx involvement of small cell carcinoma is very rare and very few cases have been reported in the literature. Here, we report a case of primary small cell carcinoma of the hypopharynx in a male patient.Case Report. A 50-year-old man presented with a 6-month history of sore throat and swellings in the right side of the neck. Direct laryngoscopy and biopsy revealed small cell carcinoma of the hypopharynx located in the right pyriform sinus.Discussion. Small cell carcinoma of the hypopharynx has no clear treatment modality due to the rarity of the disease. Systemic chemotherapy and radiotherapy should have priority among the therapy regimens because of the high metastatic potential of the tumor.
