International audience The classical Thom―Porteous formula expresses the homology class of the degeneracy locus of a generic map between two vector bundles as an alternating sum of Schur polynomials. A proof of this formula was given by Pragacz by expressing this alternating sum as the Euler characteristic of a Schur complex, which gives an explanation for the signs. Fulton later generalized this formula to the situation of flags of vector bundles by using alternating sums of Schubert polynomials. Building on the Schubert functors of Kraśkiewicz and Pragacz, we introduce Schubert complexes and show that Fulton's alternating sum can be realized as the Euler characteristic of this complex, thereby providing a conceptual proof for why an alternating sum appears.

Combinatorics International audience We consider the family of rational functions ψw= ∏( xwi - xwi+1 )-1 indexed by words with no repetition. We study the combinatorics of the sums ΨP of the functions ψw when w describes the linear extensions of a given poset P. In particular, we point out the connexions between some transformations on posets and elementary operations on the fraction ΨP. We prove that the denominator of ΨP has a closed expression in terms of the Hasse diagram of P, and we compute its numerator in some special cases. We show that the computation of ΨP can be reduced to the case of bipartite posets. Finally, we compute the numerators associated to some special bipartite graphs as Schubert polynomials.

This paper examines Euler characteristics and characteristic classes in the motivic setting. We establish a motivic version of the Becker–Gottlieb transfer, generalizing a construction of Hoyois. Making calculations of the Euler characteristic of the scheme of maximal tori in a reductive group, we prove a generalized splitting principle for the reduction from $\operatorname{GL}_{n}$ or $\operatorname{SL}_{n}$ to the normalizer of a maximal torus (in characteristic zero). Ananyevskiy’s splitting principle reduces questions about characteristic classes of vector bundles in $\operatorname{SL}$-oriented, $\unicode[STIX]{x1D702}$-invertible theories to the case of rank two bundles. We refine the torus-normalizer splitting principle for $\operatorname{SL}_{2}$ to help compute the characteristic classes in Witt cohomology of symmetric powers of a rank two bundle, and then generalize this to develop a general calculus of characteristic classes with values in Witt cohomology.

Let [Formula: see text] be a proper flat morphism between manifolds, and [Formula: see text] an analytic subset, such that the fibres Xt, for all [Formula: see text], determine a locally trivial deformation of a compact complex manifold. Non-generic fibres Xt, for t ∈ A, may be taken a priori to be singular spaces, or to have a smooth complex structure which is biholomorphically distinct from their generic neighbours. The main theorem of this article provides a sufficient condition for local triviality of the entire family [Formula: see text], in terms of the dimension of A and of the singular subvarieties of certain "degeneracy loci" in [Formula: see text]. Several specific applications of the main theorem are subsequently examined, some of which correspond sharply with examples of "structure-jumping" in complex deformations and "jumping loci" of vector bundles on complex projective space.

International audience Let $G$ be a simple graph with $n$ vertices. The coloring complex$ Δ (G)$ was defined by Steingrímsson, and the homology of $Δ (G)$ was shown to be nonzero only in dimension $n-3$ by Jonsson. Hanlon recently showed that the Eulerian idempotents provide a decomposition of the homology group $H_{n-3}(Δ (G))$ where the dimension of the $j^th$ component in the decomposition, $H_{n-3}^{(j)}(Δ (G))$, equals the absolute value of the coefficient of $λ ^j$ in the chromatic polynomial of $G, _{\mathcal{χg}}(λ )$. Let $H$ be a hypergraph with $n$ vertices. In this paper, we define the coloring complex of a hypergraph, $Δ (H)$, and show that the coefficient of $λ ^j$ in $χ _H(λ )$ gives the Euler Characteristic of the $j^{th}$ Hodge subcomplex of the Hodge decomposition of $Δ (H)$. We also examine conditions on a hypergraph, $H$, for which its Hodge subcomplexes are Cohen-Macaulay, and thus where the absolute value of the coefficient of $λ ^j$ in $χ _H(λ )$ equals the dimension of the $j^{th}$ Hodge piece of the Hodge decomposition of $Δ (H)$.

International audience We use the modules introduced by Kraśkiewicz and Pragacz (1987, 2004) to show some positivity propertiesof Schubert polynomials. We give a new proof to the classical fact that the product of two Schubert polynomialsis Schubert-positive, and also show a new result that the plethystic composition of a Schur function with a Schubertpolynomial is Schubert-positive. The present submission is an extended abstract on these results and the full versionof this work will be published elsewhere.

AbstractLet C be a curve with two smooth components and a single node, and let 𝓤C(w, r, χ) be the moduli space of w-semistable classes of depth one sheaves on C having rank r on both components and Euler characteristic χ. In this paper, under suitable assumptions, we produce a projective bundle over the product of the moduli spaces of semistable vector bundles of rank r on each component and we show that it is birational to an irreducible component of 𝓤C(w, r, χ). Then we prove the rationality of the closed subset containing vector bundles with given fixed determinant.
