Meckel’s diverticulum is a congenital anomaly present in about 3% of the population and usually asymptomatic. Rarely, a mesodiverticular band extends from the tip of a Meckel’s diverticulum to the mesentery, thought to be due to lack of involution of the left vitelline artery. The presence of this band creates a closed loop through which loops of bowel can become entrapped. Rare case reports have described incarceration of bowel and sudden death in children. We present such a case and discuss this entity.

Gastric schwannomas are rare mesenchymal tumors that arise from the nerve plexus of gut wall. They present with nonspecific symptoms and are often detected incidentally. Preoperative investigation is not pathognomic and many are therefore misdiagnosed as gastrointestinal stromal tumors. We report a rare case of a 37-year old woman who underwent laparotomy for complex bilateral ovarian cyst with resection of gastric-gastrointestinal stromal tumor preoperatively, but confirmed to have a gastric schwannomas postoperatively. This case underscores the differential diagnosis of submucosal, exophytic gastric mass as schwannoma.

Abstract Meckel’s diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract and affects 1% - 4% of the general population. Most patients are asymptomatic throughout their lives, but it is estimated that 4% - 6% will have some symptoms, which usually occur due to abdominal complications. This study aimed to report a rare case of Meckel’s diverticulum complicated by intestinal intussusception.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are malignant and rare form of soft tissue sarcoma of the digestive tract. The incidence of gastrointestinal stromal tumors is very low Kramer et al. 2005 Jejunal GISTs are extremely rare. Here we present a rare case of jejunal GIST with unusually large size at presentation. The patient presented with severe abdomen pain, exophytic growth, and dimorphic anemia. Surgical resection of the tumor was carried out, and operative findings revealed a 15 × 10 cm growth, arising from serosal surface of jejunum, at the antimesenteric surface. Diagnosis in this case was made by subjecting the resected specimen to immunohistochemical analysis. In view of large size of the resected tumor, and high-risk histopathological features, imatinib mesylate 400 mg once daily was given as adjuvant chemotherapy. Patient is asymptomatic without any evidence of tumor recurrence after six months of postoperative followup. Imatinib as such is recommended in metastatic, residual or recurrent cases of GISTs or which are surgically not removable; however, recent recommendations suggests the use of imatinib mesylate after radical surgery in high-risk cases, because it has shown a significant decrease in the recurrence rate, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also approved the use of imatinib as adjuvant therapy after complete resection of localized, primary GIST.

A Meckel’s diverticulum is a remnant of the vitelline duct, which leads to the formation of a true diverticulum containing all layers of the small intestine. The diverticulum can contain ectopic gastric, duodenal or pancreatic tissue and is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract with estimates of prevalence ranging from 0.3% to 3%. The condition is usually clinically silent. In children the most common complication is gastrointestinal bleeding caused by ulceration due to the acid secretion by ectopic gastric mucosa.

Mesenchymal tumors of the gallbladder are rarely encountered in clinical practice. The Gastrointestinal Stromal tumors(GIST) of the gallbladder are rarely encountered. These tumors most commonly arise from the interstitial cells of cajal(ICC), the pacemakers of the intestinal system. There can be benign as well as malignant form of GIST .The literature on GIST arising from the gallbladder wall is limited to few case reports only.on extensive search of the indexed literature only 9 cases of gallbladder GIST were retrieved. Based on the available literature these tumors are commonly found in females. They usually present with hypochondrial pain with or without other features of cholangitis. These tumors are usually malignant and warrant a radical surgical excision. The data on postoperative adjuvant therapy and survival is limited. The authors are presenting a review of the available literature on this rare pathology.
