“Eyes Filled with Splendor”

During a sunset in Italy, Ralph Marvell’s aesthetic pleasure in the landscape crosses into a visionary experience, one distinguished by the unusual perceptual means by which he sees it. His vision resembles the “saturated phenomenon” theorized by Jean-Luc Marion, in which the presence of being becomes so concentrated in a physical manifestation that it results in a bedazzlement of vision. Because such perception does not operate in Cartesian or Subject-centered terms, it does not reduce or objectify what is seen. The saturated gaze thus presents a rare alternative to the predatory modes of vision seen in The Custom of the Country (1913) and criticized in contemporary theory. It also forms the basis of an equally rare form of cosmopolitanism, one that is not a disguised version of narcissism, provincialism, or imperialism. Ralph’s vision, however, is short-lived, disintegrating in the destructive ways of seeing that empower his wife Undine.

This paper examines the relationships between monumental commemoration and memory, placing Rachel Whiteread's Memorial to the Austrian Jewish Victims of the Shoah (2000) as the physical manifestation of Derrida's archive as a place where memory, power, writing and representation intersect. I consider the context and characteristics of Whiteread's memorial alongside the concept of the crypt, formulated by Derrida in his ‘Fors’ to Nicolas Abraham and Maria Torok's The Wolf Man's Magic Word (1976). I propose that the archive, formed as it as around the crypt, is a place where death and desire co-habit, and that the Holocaust, the subject of Whiteread's sculpture, is itself an archive that has been constructed around what Maria Torok terms the ‘exquisite corpse’. This exquisite corpse of the Holocaust encrypts, even in its own commemoration, the erotics and desires of the ‘Nazi father’ or ‘Hitler in uns’, what Derrida terms ‘the tombstone of the illicit’. This paper poses the question that we are, even as we remember the Jewish dead, simultaneously re-encrypting the forgetful, murderous Nazi father, and advocates that we maintain a watchfulness on the threshold of the archive, the monument, the text, in order to resist total resolution, complete meaning, the forgetful re-inscription of acts of atrocity.

Verapamil-sensitive fascicular ventricular tachycardia (VT) is the most common form of idiopathic left VT. According to the QRS morphology and the successful ablation site, left fascicular VT can be classified into three subgroups: left posterior fascicular VT, whose QRS morphology shows right bundle branch block (RBBB) configuration and superior axis (common form); left anterior fascicular VT, whose QRS morphology shows RBBB configuration and right-axis deviation (uncommon form), and upper septal fascicular VT, whose QRS morphology shows narrow QRS configuration and normal or right-axis deviation (rare form). Posterior and anterior fascicular VT can be successfully ablated at the posterior or anterior mid-septum with a diastolic Purkinje potential during VT or at the VT exit site with a fused pre-systolic Purkinje potential. Upper septal fascicular VT can also be ablated at the site with diastolic Purkinje potential at the upper septum. Recognition of the heterogeneity of this VT and its unique characteristics should facilitate appropriate diagnosis and therapy.

A posztoperatív pajzsmirigyműködés normális maradt.
