We document the first occurrence of the Kentish Snail Monacha cantiana (Montagu, 1803) from Prague, Czech Republic. During autumn 2009, an abundant population of M. cantiana was found at sites with suitable vegetation and microclimatic conditions, predominantly composed of grassy vegetation cover. It is expected that this species will continue to spread in the Czech Republic.

A specimen of Araucaria fricii is described from the upper part of the Teplice Formation in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin. It extends the first occurrence of A. fricii from the mid-Coniacian back to the early Coniacian. Found in the Radovesice locality near Kučlín in the northern part of the Czech Republic, it is characterised by a deltoid cone scale complex with a centrally placed seed. It is compared to the type material of A. fricii from the mid-Coniacian Březno Formation and other European Cretaceous species of Araucaria. The taphonomy and palaeoecology of A. fricii is briefly discussed.

Nannofossil record across the Cenomanian-Coniacian interval in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin and Tethyan foreland basins (Outer Western Carpathians), Czech Republic Nannofossil biostratigraphy and mutual correlation was worked out for the Cenomanian-Coniacian deposits of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin (BCB) and Outer Western Carpathians (OWC) in the territory of the Czech Republic. Similar assemblages of the BCB and from sediments deposited on the SE slopes of West European Platform, Waschbergždánice-Subsilesian Unit, OWC support the hypothesis that the two areas were connected by a sea way (nowadays the Blansko trough). The nannoflora of the Silesian Unit, OWC show more afinity to high latitudes as is documented by the presence of Marthasterites furcatus in the Lower Turonian, UC6b and UC7 Zones. Turonian and Coniacian deep-water flysch sediments of the Silesian Unit and Magura Group of Nappes provide nannofossils on rare occassions. Strongly atched nannofossils dominated by W. barnesiae from Cenomanian black shales of the BCB are comparable to those of the Silesian Unit and reflect a similar shallow nearshore sea. In the BCB, uppermost Cenomanian is marked by the last occurrence (LO) of Axopodorhabdus albianus and first occurrence (FO) of Quadrum intermedium (6 and 7 elements) and lowermost Turonian by a sudden quantitative rise in nannoflora and by the FO Eprolithus octopetalus. First Eiffellithus eximius and thus the base of the UC8 Zone was recorded in the upper part of ammonite Zone Collignoniceras woollgari in the lower Middle Turonian. Lithastrinus grillii is the stratigraphically youngest nannofossil species in this region and indicates the uppermost Coniacian. In the OWC, the Albian-Cenomanian boundary was recorded in the Silesian Unit and is marked by the LO Crucicribrum anglicum and FO Prediscosphaera cretacea and Corollithion kennedyi in the uppermost Albian. The Turonian-Coniacian boundary found both in the BCB and Waschberg-Ždánice-Subsilesian Unit, OWC is indicated by the FO Broinsonia parca expansa and by the base of the interval with common Marthasterites furcatus. In both areas, events were found closely below the FO inoceramid species Cremnoceramus waltersdorfensis. The Coniacian-Santonian boundary interval (Waschberg-Ždánice-Subsilesian and Foremagura Units, OWC) is indicated by Lithastrinus grillii occasionally accompanied by Lucianorhabdus ex gr. cayeuxii, Hexalithus sp. and Arkhangelskiella specillata.

AbstractThis article investigates response of vegetation on gravel bars to management measures and floods. The management measures consisted of the partial removal of gravel and vegetation cover, and were applied to six gravel bars on the Ostravice River, Czech Republic. Unexpected floods occu-rred in 2010, with the amplitude of 5- to 50-year repetition. Research of vegetation on the gravel bars consisted of vegetation survey before the management works; the monitoring of vegetation development over the following year and the verification of the relationships of species diversity, successional stages and the biotope conditions with the help of multivariate analysis (detrended correspondence analysis). Vegetation on the gravel bars was at different successional stages, and had higher diversity and vegetation cover before the management measures and floods. The mul-tivariate analysis revealed a shift toward initial successional stages with high demand on moisture, temperature and light after both management measures and floods.

The first occurrence of Helix lucorum Linnaeus in the Czech Republic was reported 12 years ago, at the closed train station Žižkov in Prague. A part of the station is a ruderal habitat while large patches are covered with partly damaged concrete. At the site where it was first recorded, and where the density of H. lucorum is still the highest, this invasive snail has now almost completely replaced the original H. pomatia Linnaeus. However, it has not expanded either inside or outside the station area.

In 2005, the first screening tests to confirm the presence of potato stolbur phytoplasma in hemipterans by the PCR method were carried out to determine the spectrum of possible vector species for further analyses. Potato stolbur phytoplasma was confirmed in two out of five tested individuals of <I>Hyalesthes obsoletus</I> and in one mixed sample (10 individuals) from 17 tested samples of <I>Lygus</I> spp. As far as we know this is the first occurrence of potato stolbur phytoplasma in <I>Hyalesthes obsoletus</I> and <I>Lygus</I> spp. confirmed by the PCR method in the Czech Republic.

Among European countries the Czech Republic has a high degree of knowledge of the vegetation cover. Suffice it to recall that in 1960-1970 was published a multivolume series of books «Vegetace ČSSR», where even then with great detail characterized the vegetation of this country.

Abstract The first occurrence of fenestrate bryozoans is reported from the Acanthopyge Limestone (Eifelian) in the Koněprusy area of the Czech Republic. Fragmented zoaria have been identified in lightgrey crinoidal-limestone rich with brachiopods, corals, and stromatoporoids. Several species of fenestrates are evident, but poor preservation and fragmentation of zoaria allow only approximate taxonomic determination. The fenestrates, Fenestella sp., Laxifenestella (?) sp., Hemitrypa sp., Polyporella sp., Ptylopora sp., and Reteporina sp., are illustrated and briefly described. The presence of fenestrates has a great palaeoenvironmental significance. Fenestrates together with brachiopods, stromatopoids, and corals indicate a high-energy reef environment on the Koněprusy submarine elevation in the upper Eifelian. Morphology of fenestrates and high morphological disparity of brachiopods are remarkably similar to the faunas of the Pragian age in the Koněprusy area suggesting a similar reef environment. The upper Eifelian age of the locality is evidenced by conodonts of the Tortodus kockelianus Zone.
