Abstract Let $F$ be an infinite field of positive characteristic $p > 2$ and let $G$ be a group. In this paper, we study the graded identities satisfied by an associative algebra equipped with an elementary $G$ -grading. Let $E$ be the infinite-dimensional Grassmann algebra. For every $a$ , $b\in \mathbb {N}$ , we provide a basis for the graded polynomial identities, up to graded monomial identities, for the verbally prime algebras $M_{a,b}(E)$ , as well as their tensor products, with their elementary gradings. Moreover, we give an alternative proof of the fact that the tensor product $M_{a,b}(E)\otimes M_{r,s}(E)$ and $M_{ar+bs,as+br}(E)$ are $F$ -algebras which are not PI equivalent. Actually, we prove that the $T_{G}$ -ideal of the former algebra is contained in the $T$ -ideal of the latter. Furthermore, the inclusion is proper. Recall that it is well known that these algebras satisfy the same multilinear identities and hence in characteristic 0 they are PI equivalent.

In the study of the structure of graded algebras (such as graded ideals, graded subspaces, and radicals) or graded polynomial identities, the grading group can be replaced by any other group that realizes the same grading. Here we come to the notion of weak equivalence of gradings: two gradings are weakly equivalent if there exists an isomorphism between the graded algebras that maps each graded component onto a graded component. Each group grading on an algebra can be weakly equivalent to G-gradings for many different groups G; however, it turns out that there is one distinguished group among them, called the universal group of the grading. In this paper we study categories and functors related to the notion of weak equivalence of gradings. In particular, we introduce an oplax 2-functor that assigns to each grading its support, and show that the universal grading group functor has neither left nor right adjoint.

An algebra [Formula: see text] with a generalized [Formula: see text]-action is a generalization of an [Formula: see text]-module algebra where [Formula: see text] is just an associative algebra with [Formula: see text] and a relaxed compatibility condition between the multiplication in [Formula: see text] and the [Formula: see text]-action on [Formula: see text] holds. At first glance, this notion may appear too general, however, it enables to work with algebras endowed with various kinds of additional structures (e.g. comodule algebras over Hopf algebras, graded algebras, algebras with an action of a semigroup by anti-endomorphisms). This approach proves to be especially fruitful in the theory of polynomial identities. We show that if [Formula: see text] is a finite dimensional (not necessarily associative) algebra over a field of characteristic [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] is simple with respect to a generalized [Formula: see text]-action, then there exists [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] is the sequence of codimensions of polynomial [Formula: see text]-identities of [Formula: see text]. In particular, if [Formula: see text] is a finite dimensional (not necessarily group graded) graded-simple algebra, then there exists [Formula: see text] where [Formula: see text] is the sequence of codimensions of graded polynomial identities of [Formula: see text]. In addition, we study the free-forgetful adjunctions corresponding to (not necessarily group) gradings and generalized [Formula: see text]-actions.
