Background: Three-dimensional (3D) angiography is increasingly used in the diagnostics of brain aneurysms. Aim of the present study was to evaluate the accuracy of 3D angiograms with respect to its value for preoperative planning of aneurysm clipping. Patients and methods: The 3D angiograms of 42 patients with subarachnoid bleeding caused by aneurysm rupture of the anterior circle of Willis and the intradural carotid have been compared to intraoperative photographs of the aneurysms. Results: Neighbouring vessels, aneurysm anatomy, arteries originating from the aneurysm wall were accurately shown decreasing the surgical risk of aneurysm clipping. Conclusions: The 3D images enabled a perfect preoperative planning through the operation by illuminating the aneurysm anatomy, neck localisation and shape and relation of the aneurysm to neighbouring vessels. Operative approach, use of an accurate clip and avoidance of clipping arteries close to the aneurysm have become predictable and safer by the use of 3D angiography.

Abstract Descriptions are given for the males of Rhaptothyreus typicus, a morphologically unique and incompletely investigated deep-sea nematode, using light microscopy, TEM, and SEM. The cephalic sensilla are arranged in two circles: an anterior circle consisting of six pairs of papilliform sensilla and a posterior circle consisting of four papilliform sensilla. The fovea of the giant, oblong, amphid is covered with cuticle bearing minute perforations. The actual amphidial aperture, revealed only by TEM, is minute and slitlike. The apical oral aperture is reduced to a simple pore and the vestigial pharynx is devoid of an internal lumen and musculature. The mid-gut is a trophosome consisting of a solid mass of irregularly-shaped cells filled with rod-shaped structures that are assumed to be intracellular symbiotic bacteria. There is no evidence of even a vestige of a reproductive system except for the presence of the single spiculum. The phylogenetic relationships of Rhaptothyreus remain unknown.

The present work described helminth parasites of curimbatá, Prochilodus lineatus Valenciennes, 1836 from Volta Grande Reservoir, MG, Brazil. Eighteen fishes with average 46.7 ± 1.1 cm length and 1,674.8 ± 75.6 g weight were collected. Of the analysed fishes, 15 were parasitized with acanthocephalans in the intestine, showing a prevalence of 83.3%. The helminth was identified as Neoechinorhynchus curemai Noronha, 1973 (Acanthocephala: Neoechinorhynchidae). It differs from other species in dimension of characters and morphology. From the original description of N. curemai, it differs from the biggest dimension of testis, elongated cement gland, nucleated lemnisci, eggs size, larger proboscis hooks length in the middle and in the third circle in males and larger hooks in the anterior circle in females. A smaller percentage occupied by the reproductive system in female trunk was reported. The observation of paratypes of N. curemai of Noronha (1973) showed a great similarity with those of the present work. This fact complements the helminth description from elsewhere.
