We reported a 16-year-old girl, with diffuse vesicular rashes all over the body, presented to the emergency department with altered mental status, irritability, persistent fever and one episode of a generalized tonic-clonic seizure. After thorough evaluation and investigations, the case was a varicella zoster-associated encephalitis in an unvaccinated patient. Appropriate treatment was initiated, the patient was then shifted to the critical care and subsequently discharged with no sequelae. Early diagnosis and treatment should be emphasized as they play an important role in the clinical outcome of chickenpox-associated encephalitis.

Reversible lesions involved in the splenium of corpus callosum (RESLES) are a rare clinic-radiological condition, whose pathogenesis could be related to infectious events (such as in mild encephalopathy with reversible splenial lesion—MERS), epilepsy or metabolic/electrolyte disorders. MERS is characterized by an acute mild encephalopathy associated with lesions in the splenium of corpus callosum on brain magnetic resonance imaging. Viral infections are commonly associated with this condition and type A influenza is the most common cause. The prognosis is generally favorable with spontaneous resolution of clinical and radiological abnormalities. We report a case report of type B influenza MERS in an 8-year-old unvaccinated girl with complete clinical and radiological recovery.

A cluster of six confirmed cases with identical measles virus genotype was reported in Denmark between December 2008 and January 2009. Transmission occurred among unvaccinated children aged 15-23 months admitted to the same hospital as a 36-month-old unvaccinated girl diagnosed with measles following travel. The findings highlight the importance of vaccination before travelling and adherence to the routine vaccination schedule.
