Heidegger’s brief allusion to love in Being and time has led to consider that it is an affective state that has no relevance for the development of his existential analytic. However, from the reading of Being and time along with his personal correspondence with Hanna Arendt, it is possible to reveal the original character of the state of love.

In their apostolate, the Franciscans build their discourses around two great narratives, the first of which were the enemies: the devil and some Spanish authorities, who they saw as opposed to the evangelization of the Indians. The second dealed the very nature of the Indians. As the Indians were the object and purpose of the mission in America, the Franciscans contributed to the formation of the concept of the Indian.

In order to try to answer the question concerning the meaning of work and its relation to oeuvre, I propose to present, first of all, three positive meanings of the term work by referring to Plato, Karl Marx and Immanuel Kant. Next, I will explain the reasons that contribute to the process of dehumanization through work, and I will distinguish between society, where the other is seen as a cog for the proper functioning of the community (thus interchangeable), and community, where the other is seen as an end in itself (thus irreplaceable). Finally, I will show the importance of work considered as oeuvre, capable of bringing about the transformation of oneself and others.
