Precision agriculture is already being used commercially to improve variability management in row crop agriculture. In the same way, understanding how spatial and temporal variability of animal, forage, soil and landscape features affect grazing behavior and forage utilization provides potential to modify pasture management, improve efficiency of utilization, and maximize profits. Recent advances in global positioning system (GPS) technology have allowed the development of lightweight GPS collar receivers suitable for monitoring animal position at 5-min intervals. The GPS data can be imported into a geographic information system (GIS) to assess animal behavior characteristics and pasture utilization. This paper describes application and use of GPS technology on intensively managed beef cattle, and implications for livestock behavior and management research on pasture. Τα δρυοδάση στη χώρα μας αποτελούν τα βασικότερα και από τα πιο δυναμικά φυσικά οικοσυστήματα. Επιτελούν αλληλένδετες λειτουργίες όπως κοινωνικές (αναψυχή, περιβαλλοντική εκπαίδευση), οικονομικές (πρωτογενής παραγωγή, δημιουργία εισοδήματος) και περιβαλλοντικές (προστασία εδάφους, νερού και ατμόσφαιρας, κύκλος νερού, ενδιαιτήματα, βιοποικιλότητα, ρυθμιστικός ρόλος στο κλίμα με θετική συμβολή στην επερχόμενη κλιματική αλλαγή), καθιστώντας περίπλοκη και συνδυαστική τη διαχείρισή τους. Τα δρυοδάσος Φολόης έχει επιπλέον εξαιρετικούς μυθολογικούς και πολύ αξιόλογους ιστορικούς και αρχαιολογικούς λόγους και με την παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή φιλοδοξούμε να συμβάλλουμε στην ορθολογική και πολυλειτουργική του διαχείριση σύμφωνα με την αρχή της αειφόρου ανάπτυξης και στη δημιουργία συσταδικών μοντέλων που να ανταποκρίνονται με τον πληρέστερο τρόπο στην εκάστοτε παραπάνω αναφερόμενη λειτουργία. Η εφαρμογή των σύγχρονων μεθόδων χωρικής ανάλυσης (Geographic Information System – G.I.S.) και των συσκευών δορυφορικού εντοπισμού (Global Positioning System – G.P.S.) παρέχουν σήμερα το κατάλληλο πλαίσιο της χωρικής κατανομής και της ακριβούς οριοθέτησής τους σε σύστημα καρτεσιανών συντεταγμένων, ώστε να ορίζεται με ακρίβεια η κάθε λειτουργία, με τις υπόλοιπες να εισέρχονται συμπληρωματικά καθώς βρίσκονται σε συνεχή αλληλεπίδραση και αλληλεξάρτηση μεταξύ τους. Η υπάρχουσα κατάσταση δεν ανταποκρίνεται στις σύγχρονες απαιτήσεις μιας πολυλειτουργικής θεώρησης καθότι μέχρι σήμερα η διαχείρισή του στηριζόταν σε οικονομικά κριτήρια με στόχο την απόληψη βιομάζας και μάλιστα η κατά τόπους έντονη υπερκάρπωση και έλλειψη καλλιεργητικών επεμβάσεων δημιούργησε στην πλειοψηφία ομήλικες συστάδες που αδυνατούν να ανταποκριθούν σε λειτουργίες εκτός της παραγωγής ξυλείας.Με τη χρήση των προαναφερθέντων, εκτιμήθηκε η παραγωγικότητα ολόκληρου του δρυοδάσους με στόχο τον προσδιορισμό της ικανότητάς του να απορροφήσει τις επερχόμενες διαταραχές και να ανταποκριθεί αρτιότερα στην εκπλήρωση των λειτουργιών με αειφορικό τρόπο. Επιπλέον η υπάρχουσα βιβλιογραφία, η γνώση και η εμπειρία που έχει αποκτηθεί καθιστούν την υπάρχουσα κατάσταση απολύτως αντιστρεπτή μέσω των κατάλληλων δασοκομικών επεμβάσεων, της αριστοποίησης των δασοκομικών χειρισμών και της διαμόρφωσης της κατάλληλης κατά περίπτωση δομής. Η δημιουργία μεικτών συστάδων κηπευτής και υποκηπευτής δομής μπορεί να επιτευχθεί με μια σειρά χρονικά κατανεμημένων δασοκομικών επεμβάσεων ώστε οι διάφορες δασικές λειτουργίες να συνδυαστούν ακόμα και αν έρχονται σε αντίθεση μεταξύ τους, εξυπηρετώντας κοινωνικές ανάγκες και δημιουργώντας σταθερότερα δασικά οικοσυστήματα έναντι εξωτερικών παραγόντων και επιδράσεων.

Kota Malang merupakan salah satu kota tujuan wisata. Wisata yang disajikan tidak hanya berupa wisata alam, tetapi juga wisata kuliner. Perkembangan kuliner di Malang menjadi semakin pesat sehingga semakin banyak pula wisatawan yang ingin mengunjunginya. Namun, karena keterbatasan informasi membuat permasalahan bagi wisatawan  yang  ingin  berkunjung  ke  lokasi  kuliner  tersebut.Oleh  karena  itu,  dikembangkan  sebuah  Sistem Pencarian Lokasi Kuliner di Kota Malang dengan Location Based Service(LBS) yang menggunakan sistem operasi Android. LBS adalah implementasi dari mobile GIS (Geographic Information System), yang menampilkan posisi secara  geografis  keberadaan  posisi  pengguna  dari  perangkat  mobile  melalui GPS  (Global  Positioning  System) sehingga  dapat  mengidentifikasi  lokasi  seperti  lokasi  kuliner  dari  pengguna. Sistem Pencarian Lokasi Kuliner di Kota  Malang  ini dapat  menampilkan  informasi  mengenai  lokasi  kuliner  di  kota  Malang. Sistem ini mempunyaibeberapa fitur yaitu, menemukan  lokasi  kuliner  terdekat,  pencarian  berdasarkan kategori  dan rating, menampilkan rute menuju lokasi kuliner, menambahkan review lokasi kuliner, memberikan rating lokasi kuliner, serta  menambahkan  lokasi  kuliner  baru.  Dengan  fitur  tersebut  maka  Sistem  Pencarian  Lokasi Kuliner di Kota Malang  ini  dapat  menyajikan  informasi  dan  pencarian  lokasi  kuliner  di  Kota  Malang  ke  dalam sebuah sistem dengan  pendekatan  teknologi  informasi  serta  referensi  tambahan  bagi  pihak-pihak  yang  memerlukan  informasi berkaitan dengan kuliner yang dapat membantu mengembangkan obyek kuliner tersebut.

Blackbrush acacia and huisache, two troublesome woody legumes on Texas rangelands, could be distinguished on conventional color aerial video imagery. The integration of a global positioning system with the video imagery permitted latitude/longitude coordinates of blackbrush acacia and huisache infestations to be recorded on each image. Global positioning system coordinates were entered into a geographic information system to map blackbrush acacia and huisache populations over an extensive rangeland area.

Os mapas geológicos, elementares a diversas finalidades, podem ser elaborados por meio da utilização de técnicas de geoprocessamento e geotecnologias como o Geographic Information System (GIS), sensoriamento remoto e o Global Positioning System (GPS). Essas ferramentas podem apresentar bons resultados, sobretudo com informações obtidas em campo, etapa indispensável quando utilizados coeficientes de concordância. Existem grupos de mapas geológicos definidos pela escala. Os mapas de reconhecimento, por exemplo, são confeccionados na escala de 1:250.000 ou menor. Assim, o presente artigo propõe um procedimento experimental para mapas de reconhecimento geológico, aplicado na bacia do rio Uberabinha (MG) com a reclassificação dos intervalos altimétricos a partir das cotas dos contatos litológicos captadas em campo por receptor GPS. O resultado foi comparado com o mapa geológico do Projeto Triângulo Mineiro em escala 1:100.000. Com esses mapas, foi analisada a qualidade de ambos por meio dos coeficientes de concordância total, Kappa e Tau, o que contribuiu para a elaboração de um mapa de reconhecimento geológico da área de estudo. Ressalta-se que esses procedimentos podem ser uma alternativa para a confecção de mapas geológicos em outras bacias hidrográficas em contextos geotectônicos semelhantes.

Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui sebaran titik-titik Tempat Penampungan Sampah (TPS) ilegal dan volumenya, serta pengaruh faktor geofisik, faktor antropogenik dan faktor kependudukan terhadap sebaran Tempat Penampungan Sampah (TPS) ilegal. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif yang diperkuat dengan hasil pemetaan TPS Ilegal berdasarkan data Global Positioning System (GPS) dengan menggunakan Geographic Information System (GIS). Analisis data yang digunakan yaitu analisis deskriptif dan disajikan dalam bentuk output berupa peta serta tabulasi data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penyebaran lokasi dari 43 TPS Ilegal hampir merata di 9 kelurahan di Kecamatan Mataram. Karakteristik TPS Ilegal ditinjau dari volume, jarak dengan sungai, jenis penggunaan lahan, jenis jalan yang ditempati, dan kepadatan penduduk. Volume TPS Ilegal terbesar yang diperoleh yaitu sebesar 36 m3, lokasi TPS Ilegal berjarak kurang dari 15 m dari sungai sebesar 60,46% dan berada di jalan lingkungan yakni sebesar 58,14%. Sedangkan kepadatan penduduk tidak dapat dijadikan faktor utama terkait pengaruhnya terhadap jumlah titik TPS ilegal di Kecamatan Mataram. Dengan demikian keberadaan TPS Ilegal tersebut sangat berpotensi mencemari lingkungan karena berada dekat dengan sungai dan berada di lingkungan permukiman.

Surface properties of turfgrass athletic fields exhibit within-field variability. Wearable global positioning system athlete performance tracking units allow for the investigation of field impact on athlete performance. The purpose of this technical note is to present a case study introducing a methodology to model the effect of within-field variability on athlete performance using global positioning system and geographic information system technologies. Fifteen male collegiate club rugby athletes wore a global positioning system unit (10 Hz frequency sampling locational data) during two home games. Only athlete speed (m/s) was considered because measurements were georeferenced. Soil moisture, soil compaction, turfgrass quality, and surface hardness measurements were taken and georeferenced from the field prior to the games. The field’s boundary was digitized in a geographic information system and divided into 3 m2 grid cells. Georeferenced data were imported to the geographic information system and underwent processes to calculate the team’s weighted mean speed and surface property variability scores in each grid cell for both games. Linear regressions were conducted with the data sets to determine the effect of within-field variability on team mean speed. Depending on the game, within-field variability of each measured surface property, as well as a few interactions, did significantly influence team speed. Future larger-scale studies can build upon the reported methodology to further investigate and validate these types of relationships. Coaches, trainers, athletes, and field managers could use this information to prepare for, or manage, turfgrass athletic fields in a way that better meets expectations and maximizes performance.

This paper describes the application of airborne video data with global positioning system and geographic information system technologies for detecting and mapping Chinese tamarisk infestations in the southwestern United States. Study areas were along the Colorado River in southwestern Arizona, the Rio Grande River in extreme west Texas, and the Pecos River in west-central Texas. Chinese tamarisk could be readily distinguished on conventional color video imagery in late November when its foliage turned a yellow-orange to orange-brown color prior to leaf drop. The integration of the global positioning system with the video imagery permitted latitude/longitude coordinates of Chinese tamarisk infestations to be recorded on each image. The global positioning system latitude/longitude coordinates were entered into a geographic information system to map Chinese tamarisk populations along the three river systems.
