A direct and an indirect method for accurate measurement of absolute intensities of low-energy γ-rays from neutron capture and radioactive decay by means of a crystal spectrometer is described. The 478-keV peak of Li7 (target B10) is used in the direct method while the 412-keV peak of Hg198 (target Au) is used in the indirect method. In addition the intensity calibration of the crystal spectrometer used in FRM (Munich Research Reactor), determination of the neutron capture rate and corrections for γ and neutron self-absorption are discussed in some detail. Absolute γ-intensities per neutron capture or decay respectively were determined for a number of strong low energy γ transitions in Rh104, Cd114, Sm150, Sm153, Eu152, Eu153, Eu154, Gd156, Gd158, Dy162, Dy163, Dy164, Dy165, Ho165, Ho166 and Er166. An accuracy of 2% was obtained in the most favorable cases.

The internal conversion electron spectrum of transitions in the decay of (139 min) 165Dy to 165Ho has been studied using a high resolution iron-free double focusing β-ray spectrometer. In addition to γ rays previously reported eight new γ rays, mostly in the low energy region, have been observed. A decay scheme involving 17 excited levels is proposed for 165Ho. Multipolarity data, obtained from the measurements of absolute or ratios of conversion coefficients of γ rays, were utilized for assigning possible spins and parities to the levels of 165Ho. The experimental level structure is discussed in the light of nuclear models.

It is known that parity violation can be enhanced in compound nuclei due to mixing of s- and p-waves, and it is suggested that time reversal invariance (T) violation is enhanced by the same mechanism. We are planing a T-violation search using compound nuclei produced in neutron capture reactions. Although 81Br is one of the candidate target nuclei, its sensitivity to T-violation has not yet been determined. For an estimate of the latter, a measurement of the angular distribution of γ-rays emitted in the 81Br(n,γ) reaction was carried out in November 2017, of which we report first results.
