A separable representation for the two-nucleon T-matrix in coupled channels has been obtained from a unitary pole expansion for the potential and the method has been tested with the Reid soft-core potential in the 3S,_3D1 channel. A 3-term expansion provides a T-matrix that is sufficiently accurate for a perturbation theory calculation of the three-nucleon bound state, while a IS-term expansion closely reproduces the exact T-matrix. In addition, a unitary pole approximation is presented that gives a better fit to the phase shifts and coupling parameter than that of Siebert et al. (1972).

In this paper, the cross-sections of fusion reactions 16O + 208Pb, 28Si + 208Pb, 40C + + 40Ca, 40Ca + 48Ca, 58Ni + 58Ni, and 16O + 154Sm at bombarding energies above and near the fusion barrier have been investigated. The fusion cross-sections have been studied by means of the Monte Carlo method and effective soft-core nucleon-nucleon interaction. One adjustable parameter was used in these calculations. This parameter can change the strength and repulsive parts of soft-core potential values. It has to be adjusted, so that the analytical results are in acceptable agreement with the experimental data. In our calculations, we have taken the range of the nucleon-nucleon soft-core interaction to be constant and equal to that of the M3Y-Raid potential. Results show that the higher values for the diffusion parameter in the Woods-Saxon potential obtained from a careful analysis of 16O + 208Pb and 28Si + 208Pb reactions are due to the many particle effects on the nucleon-nucleon potential.

A complete nuclear matter calculation in lowest order Brueckner theory is done for a super soft core nucleon–nucleon potential due to de Tourreil, Rouben, and Sprung and the effect of including isobar degrees of freedom on binding energy, saturation, and half-shell G-matrices is considered in the frame work of the coupled channel formalism. The singlet and triplet S-state effective interaction is derived and its density and momentum dependence is studied. Comparison is made with the results obtained from the Reid soft core potential.
