Halyomorpha halys is a severe agricultural pest of Asian origin that has invaded many countries throughout the world. Pesticides are currently the favored control methods, but as a consequence of their frequent use, often disrupt Integrated Pest Management. Biological control with egg parasitoids is seen as the most promising control method over the long-term. Knowledge of the reproductive biology under laboratory conditions of the most effective candidates (Trissolcus japonicus and Trissolcus mitsukurii) for optimizing production for field releases is strongly needed. Rearing of these egg parasitoids was tested by offering three different host supply regimes using new emerged females and aged, host-deprived females in different combinations. Results showed a mean progeny per female ranging from 80 to 85 specimens for T. japonicus and from 63 to 83 for T. mitsukurii. Sex ratios were strongly female biased in all combinations and emergence rates exceeded 94% overall. Cumulative curves showed that longer parasitization periods beyond 10–14 days (under the adopted rearing regimes) will not lead to a significantly increase in progeny production. However, ageing females accumulate eggs in their ovaries that can be quickly laid if a sufficient number of host eggs are supplied, thus optimizing host resources. Our data showed that offering H. halys egg masses to host-deprived female Trissolcus once a week for three weeks allowed its eggs to accumulate in the ovary, providing the greatest number of offspring within a three week span.

Purpose. Purpose of the article. The paper aims at the development of methods for multidimensional data presentation for solving classification problems based on the cumulative curves analysis. The paper considers the outlier detection problem for high-dimensional data based on the multidimensional scaling, in order to construct high-quality data visualization. An abnormal observation (or outlier), according to D. Hawkins, is an observation that is so different from others that it may be assumed as appeared in the sample in a fundamentally different way. Methods. One of the conceptual approaches that allow providing the classification of sample observations is multidimensional scaling, representing by the classical Orlochi method, the Torgerson main projections and others. The Torgerson method assumes that when converting data to construct the most convenient classification, the origin must be placed at the gravity center of the analyzed data, after which the matrix of scalar products of vectors with the origin at the gravity center is calculated, the two largest eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors are chosen and projection matrix is evaluated. Moreover, the method assumes the linear partitioning of regular and anomalous observations, which arises rarely. Therefore, it is logical to choose among the possible axes for designing those that allow obtaining more effective results for solving the problem of detecting outlier observations. A procedure of modified CC-ABOD (Cumulative Curves for Angle Based Outlier Detection) to estimate the visualization quality has been applied. It is based on the estimation of the variances of angles assumed by particular observation and remaining observations in multidimensional space. Further the cumulative curves analysis is implemented, which allows partitioning out groups of closely localized observations (in accordance with the chosen metric) and form classes of regular, intermediate, and anomalous observations. Results. A proposed modification of the Torgerson method is developed. The F1-measure distribution is constructed and analyzed for different design options in the source data. An analysis of the empirical distribution showed that in a number of cases the best axes are corresponding to the second, third, or even fourth largest eigenvalues. Findings. The multidimensional scaling methods for constructing visualizations of multi-dimensional data and solving problems of outlier detection have been considered. It was found out that the determination of design is an ambiguous problem.

AbstractIrwin and Wormington (1970) employ cumulative curves to assess overall similarity between artifact complexes of the Great Plains. Properly applied, ogives are relevant only to R-mode phenomena. Numerical taxonomic aids are advanced as procedures more ef ficacious for such Q-mode analyses. Numerical taxonomy and computer techniques in general are currently within the reach of every archaeologist.

The construction and demolition wastes (C&DW) frequently are abandoned in private properties, roads, and landfills or collected by non-licensed companies. In Portugal they are few recycling plants operating with this residue, and this work makes the bridge between the mechanical recycling process developed on semi-industrial scale, and the recycling products characterization process developed on laboratorial scale. The main goal of the present work is the quality improvement of the recycled aggregates produced by a construction and demolition waste recycling pilot plant with 50 ton/h located in Montemor-o-Novo. Process operations are the hammer mill comminution, magnetic separation and sieving (bar sieves: 0-4mm, 4-8mm and 8-12mm; and square sieves: 12-22mm, 22-31mm and above 31mm). In order to improve the magnetic separation process, several tests with different distances between the magnet and the conveyor belt were made (21-31cm). On the other hand, to improve the quality of the produced aggregates, the bar screen size fractions were analyzed, according to the Portuguese Standard (NP EN 933-1 2000). The most efficient distances for the magnetic separation process were identified as between 21 and 27cm, with efficiency between 85% and 90% respectively. According to the histograms, the more frequent red aggregate from 0-4mm size fraction are +0.425-0.850; +0.850-1.7 and +1.7-3.35. From the 4-8mm red aggregates, the more frequent size fractions are +4.75-6.7 and +6.7-9.95. Finally, from the 8-12mm red aggregates, the more frequent new size fractions are +6.7-9.50 and +9.50-13.20. Sieving results obtained from cumulative curves for red aggregate showed an decrease in the mass % amount for the size fractions: 0-4mm: 97%, 4-8mm:76% and 8-12mm: 56%. The results from cumulative curves for grey aggregate showed a light decreased in the amount mass % for the size fractions: 0-4mm: 90%, 4-8mm:56% and 8-12mm: 60%.

The Volta Grande Environmental Unity represents one of the few remnants of Cerrado protected by a reserve in the Triângulo Mineiro region, municipalities of Conceição das Alagoas (19°55' S, 48°23' W) and Miguelópolis (20°12' S, 48°03' W), in the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo, respectively. The mammalian fauna of this reserve was inventoried between 2003 and 2004 to generate estimates about taxonomic composition, richness, and abundance of species. A sampling effort of 832 trapping-nights resulted in 24 species recorded. Cumulative curves suggest that the overall inventory is not complete and that more species are likely to be registered. The majority of species recorded is widespread along the Cerrado, but include some noteworthy records of endangered species, such as the Giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) and the Manned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus). The record of the arboreal cricetid rodent Oecomys bicolor represents a slight extension of the southeastern limit of its distribution.

Pressure fluctuations beneath hydraulic jumps downstream of Ogee spillways potentially damage stilling basin beds. This paper deals with the extreme pressures underneath free hydraulic jumps along a smooth stilling basin. The experiments were conducted in a laboratory flume. From the probability distribution of measured instantaneous pressures, the pressures with different non-exceedance probabilities (P*a%) could be determined. It was verified that the maximum pressure fluctuations, as well as the negative pressures, are located at the positions closest to the spillway toe. The minimum pressure fluctuations are located at the downstream of hydraulic jumps. It was possible to assess the cumulative curves of P*a% related to the characteristic points along the basin, and different Froude numbers. To benchmark, the results, the dimensionless forms of mean pressures, standard deviations, and pressures with different non-exceedance probabilities were assessed. It was found that an existing methodology can be used to interpret the present data, and pressure distribution in similar conditions, by using a new third-order polynomial relationship for the standard deviation (σ*X) with the determination coefficient (R2) equal to 0.717. It was verified that the new optimized adjustment gives more accurate results for the estimation of the maximum extreme pressures than the minimum extreme pressures.
