Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a relatively new technology. The industry, especially when it comes to infrastructure projects, is just beginning to realize the potential benefits of it. Large capital projects are being done today using BIM technology and standards, while in Bosnia and Herzegovina today, we do not have a project implemented by it. BIM is still exhibiting varying states of maturity among its participants. The research was carried out in B&H to realize perceptions of BIM in the infrastructures projects from the perspective of different participants (investor, consultant, designer, supervising engineer, contractor, supplier). The following aims are to demonstrate perception about BIM, the willingness to apply it, and different varying states of maturity among its participants and the current degree of application in practice

Building information modelling has become a core topic in the architectural engineering and construction (AEC) industry, and its benefits have been realised over different phases of project construction. Adoption of nD BIM in the domain of infrastructure projects has provided challenges and is yet evolving. This chapter reviews the adoption of Building information modelling in the management of infrastructure projects. The use of nD planning (4D, 5D, 6D, 7D, and 8D planning) in infrastructure planning and management is discussed through Mapping n-D BIM with different applications in infrastructure projects. 4D BIM models are developed integrating the 3D models with the schedule and they support multiple construction management tasks. The implementation of 4D planning and management in infrastructure projects is demonstrated with the help of two case studies.

The present research is aimed to identify the barriers in implementation of building information modelling (BIM) practices and challenges in construction industry in Qatar. Construction industry has been one of the lowest performing industries around the world. Recent growth in infrastructure projects in the past three decades has led to criticism of many problems. In view of improving the image of the industry, most commonly criticized issues are lack of innovation, industry wide fragmentation and low performance in delivery of projects. A collaborative working environment is required to solve these issues. In the past few years, development and use of information technology in AEC industry has increased to support the requirement of an integrated working environment. With revolution in use of technology, BIM seems to offer solution to most problems faced by the industry. BIM presents computer aided process to manage entire construction project from design phase to disposal of the built structure. Construction boards and private market forces in US and UK have reported low awareness and implementation about BIM. Recent improvements have not achieved the required level of deployment. Construction industry in Qatar faces similar issues in dealing with upsurge of infrastructure projects. Construction sector in Europe, US, UK and Singapore after witnessing the advantages of BIM started pushing for higher implementation. Expected use of BIM in Qatar will be less than European, US and UK markets at government level. As BIM offers solution to the issues faced by construction industry in Qatar, it will be beneficial to examine current status of implementation, barriers and challenges faced by the construction sector in its implementation in Qatar.

Building information modelling (BIM) is one of the new technologies being used in architectural and constructions projects. At present, BIM curricula are being taught in many Malaysian higher learning institutions, including at the certificate level in community colleges. Even though many studies have investigated behavioural intention to adopt BIM in the industrial setting, studies on the intention to use BIM among students during their training or learning have not received the same level of attention. This study, therefore, investigated the extent to which community college students are willing to accept and use BIM. Factors that influenced their behavioural intention to use BIM, as well as the relationship between the factors and intention to use were also examined. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was used as the theoretical framework to guide the research, where students’ behavioural intention to use BIM was explained through their perceptions of its usefulness and ease of use, as well as their attitude towards BIM utilization in the classroom. A total of 144 community college students enrolled in the architecture programmes in Malaysia were selected as the sample using convenience sampling. The findings show that the students’ behavioural intention to adopt BIM is high. They also perceive BIM as useful and easy to use, and their attitude towards BIM usage appears to be positive. The regression model produced an adjusted R-squared value of 0.790 indicating that 79% of the total variance in the students’ intention to use BIM can be explained by the three independent variables, i.e., perceived usefulness, ease of use, and attitude.
