Abstract We consider a heat-type operator $$\mathcal {L}$$ L structured on the left invariant 1-homogeneous vector fields which are generators of a Carnot group, with a uniformly positive matrix of bounded measurable coefficients depending only on time. We prove that if $$\mathcal {L}u$$ L u is smooth with respect to the space variables, the same is true for u, with quantitative regularity estimates in the scale of Sobolev spaces defined by right invariant vector fields. Moreover, the solution and its space derivatives of every order satisfy a 1/2-Hölder continuity estimate with respect to time. The result is proved both for weak solutions and for distributional solutions, in a suitable sense.

AbstractIn this paper we prove, that under certain hypotheses, the planar differential equation: ˙x = X1(x, y) + X2(x, y), ˙y = Y1(x, y) + Y2(x, y), where (Xi, Yi), i = 1, 2, are quasi-homogeneous vector fields, has at most two limit cycles. The main tools used in the proof are the generalized polar coordinates, introduced by Lyapunov to study the stability of degenerate critical points, and the analysis of the derivatives of the Poincar´e return map. Our results generalize those obtained for polynomial systems with homogeneous non-linearities.

AbstractIn this paper, we consider a special class of solvable Lie groups such that for any x, y in their Lie algebras, [x, y] is a linear combination of x and y. We investigate the harmonicity properties of invariant vector fields of this kind of Lorentzian Lie groups. It is shown that any invariant unit time-like vector field is spatially harmonic. Moreover, we determine all vector fields which are critical points of the energy functional restricted to the space of smooth vector fields.

AbstractLet 𝔾 be a step-two nilpotent group of H-type with Lie algebra 𝔊 = V ⊕ t. We define a class of vector fields X = {Xj} on 𝔾 depending on a real parameter k ≥ 1, and we consider the corresponding p-Laplacian operator Lp,ku = divX(|∇Xu|p−2∇Xu). For k = 1 the vector fields X = {Xj} are the left invariant vector fields corresponding to an orthonormal basis of V; for 𝔾 being the Heisenberg group the vector fields are the Greiner fields. In this paper we obtain the fundamental solution for the operator Lp,k and as an application, we get a Hardy type inequality associated with X.
