AbstractMotivated by the theory of complex multiplication of abelian varieties, in this paper we study the conformality classes of flat tori in $${\mathbb {R}}^{n}$$ R n and investigate criteria to determine whether a n-dimensional flat torus has non trivial (i.e. bigger than $${\mathbb {Z}}^{*}={\mathbb {Z}}{\setminus }\{0\}$$ Z ∗ = Z \ { 0 } ) semigroup of conformal endomorphisms (the analogs of isogenies for abelian varieties). We then exhibit several geometric constructions of tori with this property and study the class of conformally equivalent lattices in order to describe the moduli space of the corresponding tori.

We study two natural questions about subvarieties of moduli spaces. In the first section, we study the locus of curves equipped with F-nilpotent bundles and its relationship to the p-rank zero locus of the moduli space of curves of genus g. In the second section, we study subvarieties of moduli spaces of vector bundles on curves. We prove an analogue of a result of F. Oort about proper subvarieties of moduli of abelian varieties.

In this paper, we investigate the construction of two moduli stacks of Kummer varieties. The first one is the stack [Formula: see text] of abstract Kummer varieties and the second one is the stack [Formula: see text] of embedded Kummer varieties. We will prove that [Formula: see text] is a Deligne-Mumford stack and its coarse moduli space is isomorphic to [Formula: see text], the coarse moduli space of principally polarized abelian varieties of dimension [Formula: see text]. On the other hand, we give a modular family [Formula: see text] of embedded Kummer varieties embedded in [Formula: see text], meaning that every geometric fiber of this family is an embedded Kummer variety and every isomorphic class of such varieties appears at least once as the class of a fiber. As a consequence, we construct the coarse moduli space [Formula: see text] of embedded Kummer surfaces and prove that it is obtained from [Formula: see text] by contracting the locus swept by a particular linear equivalence class of curves. We conjecture that this is a general fact: [Formula: see text] could be obtained from [Formula: see text] via a contraction for all [Formula: see text].

AbstractWe study the motive of the moduli space of semistable Higgs bundles of coprime rank and degree on a smooth projective curve C over a field k under the assumption that C has a rational point. We show this motive is contained in the thick tensor subcategory of Voevodsky’s triangulated category of motives with rational coefficients generated by the motive of C. Moreover, over a field of characteristic zero, we prove a motivic non-abelian Hodge correspondence: the integral motives of the Higgs and de Rham moduli spaces are isomorphic.

Abstract We investigate qualitative properties of the underlying scheme of Rapoport–Zink formal moduli spaces of p-divisible groups (resp., shtukas). We single out those cases where the dimension of this underlying scheme is zero (resp., those where the dimension is the maximal possible). The model case for the first alternative is the Lubin–Tate moduli space, and the model case for the second alternative is the Drinfeld moduli space. We exhibit a complete list in both cases.

Abstract Let C be a hyperelliptic curve of genus $g \geq 3$ . In this paper, we give a new geometric description of the theta map for moduli spaces of rank 2 semistable vector bundles on C with trivial determinant. In order to do this, we describe a fibration of (a birational model of) the moduli space, whose fibers are GIT quotients $(\mathbb {P}^1)^{2g}//\text {PGL(2)}$ . Then, we identify the restriction of the theta map to these GIT quotients with some explicit degree 2 osculating projection. As a corollary of this construction, we obtain a birational inclusion of a fibration in Kummer $(g-1)$ -varieties over $\mathbb {P}^g$ inside the ramification locus of the theta map.

AbstractThis paper examines the moduli spaces of log Hodge structures introduced by Kato and Usui. This moduli space is a partial compactification of a discrete quotient of a period domain. This paper treats the following two cases: (A) where the period domain is Hermitian symmetric, and (B) where the Hodge structures are of the mirror quintic type. Especially it addresses a property of the torsor.

Given a foliation F with closed leaves and with certain kinds of singularities on an oriented closed surface Σ, we construct in this paper an isotropic foliation on ℳ(Σ), the moduli space of flat G-connections, for G any compact simple simply connected Lie-group. We describe the infinitesimal structure of this isotropic foliation in terms of the basic cohomology with twisted coefficients of F. For any pair (F, g), where g is a singular metric on Σ compatible with F, we construct a new polarization on the symplectic manifold ℳ′(Σ), the open dense subset of smooth points of ℳ(Σ). We construct a sequence of complex structures on Σ, such that the corresponding complex structures on ℳ′(Σ) converges to the polarization associated to (F, g). In particular we see that the Jeffrey–Weitzman polarization on the SU(2)-moduli space is the limit of a sequence of complex structures induced from a degenerating family of complex structures on Σ, which converges to a point in the Thurston boundary of Teichmüller space of Σ. As a corollary of the above constructions, we establish a certain discontinuiuty at the Thurston boundary of Teichmüller space for the map from Teichmüller space to the space of polarizations on ℳ′(Σ). For any reducible finite order diffeomorphism of the surface, our constuction produces an invariant polarization on the moduli space.

AbstractIn the Simpson moduli space M of semi-stable sheaves with Hilbert polynomial dm − 1 on a projective plane we study the closed subvariety M' of sheaves that are not locally free on their support. We show that for d ≥4 , it is a singular subvariety of codimension 2 in M. The blow up of M along M' is interpreted as a (partial) modification of M \ M' by line bundles (on support).
