ABSTRACT
Objective
To describe the approach of transabdominal ultrasound-guided oocyte retrieval in a patient of müllerian anomaly and ovarian malposition.
Setting
A tertiary referral reproductive medicine unit.
Patient
A 23-year-old patient with müllerian anomaly (right unicornuate with left rudimentary horn uterus) and ovarian malposition.
Intervention
Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation, transabdominal ultrasound-guided oocyte retrieval.
Main outcome measure
Total and mature oocytes retrieved, fertilization rate, embryo number and quality.
Result
Five oocytes were retrieved transabdominally using percutaneous needle puncture under ultrasound guidance.
Conclusion
In in vitro fertilization (IVF) protocols, patients with müllerian anomaly with inaccessible ovaries vaginally, transabdominal ultrasound-guided follicular aspiration is a safe and efficacious alternative technique for oocyte retrieval.
