Abstract A gas-liquid chromatographic (GLC) method has been developed for the analysis of potato glycoalkaloids by direct determination of the alkaloid components isolated by hydrolysis with IN ethanolic HCl. Recoveries of solanidine from potato tubers and foliage fortified with solanine over a range approximately 0.5 to 5 times the glycoalkaloid originally present averaged greater than 95%, and the lower limit of sensitivity was 0.25 mg/100 g using a nitrogen-phosphorus detector. A means of distinguishing solanidine and demissidine by formation of their respective 3β-trifluoroacetates with trifluoroacetic anhydride (TFAA) is demonstrated.

Abstract The direct gas-liquid chromatography of a number of N'-phenyl-.N,N-dimethylureas and N'- phenyl-N-methoxy-N-methylureas has been investigated. Representatives of both groups have been studied in detail, calibration curves using an internal standard have been established, and herbicide technical products as well as formulations have been analyzed quantitatively. A 2 or 3% silicone SE-30 column was used in conjunction with a flame ionization detector. Operating temperatures were chosen on the basis of thermal stability data obtained by differential scanning calorimetry. Gas-liquid chromatography- mass spectroscopy coupling has confirmed that intact urea compounds elute from the chromatographic column.

ABSTRACT The 17-oxosteroids were estimated in the urine of 27 patients with Cushing's syndrome by gas-liquid chromatography (G. L. C.). The values of the various steroid fractions are compared with those of normal subjects, patients with thyrotoxicosis and obese subjects. The effect of the age of the patients on the diagnostic value of the invidual 17-oxosteroids and their ratios is discussed.
