In this paper, a method for the management of accidental releases in the forest industry is introduced. The aim of this method is to reduce the environmental consequences of spills escalating through damage to the biological wastewater treatment plant. The method covers also accidental releases into the atmosphere to watercourses, and to the soil/groundwater. This paper describes how the method for the management of the potential accidental releases works, focusing especially on the identification procedure (HAZSCAN), and the experience obtained when applying the method in the three forest industry plants.
