Abstract: On the condition of protecting the critical load, it is necessary to restore the service of outage area without fault as soon as possible after the occurrence of fault in smart distribution system. A fast service restoration method is proposed for medium-voltage distribution system with distributed generations, which combines intentional islanding of DGs for network reconfiguration. Under the condition of safety limits, the out of service areas are achieved maximization of restoration, making full use of DGs. The whole process of restoration is regarded as a multi-stages decision problem, and divided into four stages. Compared to the existing algorithms, this method can effectively avoid the time-consuming and search results problems, and the simulation results are better. The effectiveness and practicality of the propose approach is demonstrated by simulations on a PG&E 69-nodes system with DGs.

Electric Power Distribution System is a complex network of electrical power system. Also, large number of lines on a distribution system experiences regular faults which lead to high value of current. Speedy and precise fault location plays a pivotal role in accelerating system restoration which is a need of modern day. Unlike transmission system which involves a simple connection, distribution system has a very complicated structure thereby making it a herculean task to design the network for computational analysis. In this paper, the authors have simulated IEEE 13- node distribution system using PSCAD which is an unbalanced system and current samples are generated at the substation end. A Fuzzy c-mean (FCM) and statistical based approach has been used. Samples are transformed as clusters by use of FCM and fed to Expectation- Maximization (EM) algorithm for classifying and locating faults in an unbalanced distribution system. Further, it is to be kept in mind that the combination has not been used for the above purpose as per the literature available till date.

The increasingly serious energy crisis and environmental pollution problems promote the large-scale application of microgrids (MGs) and electric vehicles (EVs). As the main carrier of MGs and EVs, distribution network is gradually presenting multi-source and active characteristics. A fast service restoration method of multi-source active distribution network with MGs and EVs is proposed in this paper for service restoration of distribution network, which takes effectiveness, rapidity, economy and reliability into consideration. Then, different optimal power flow (OPF) models for the service restoration strategy are constructed separately to minimize the network loss after service restoration. In addition, a genetic algorithm was introduced to solve the OPF model. The analysis of the service restoration strategy is carried out on an IEEE distribution system with three-feeder and eighteen nodes containing MGs and EVs, and the feasibility and effectiveness are verified
