The purpose of this research is to explore how proximity dimensions can favour the diffusion of knowledge between economic actors, focusing on the knowledge relationships established by a knowledge gatekeeper. In particular, the authors formulate several hypotheses regarding the role of proximity dimensions (i.e. geographical, organizational, and technological) in affecting the establishment of gatekeepers’ knowledge relationships, taking into account their collaborative-non collaborative type and exploitative-explorative nature. Adopting a patent-based analysis, the authors test their hypotheses on a research sample constituted by 527 knowledge relationships established by two distinct types of knowledge gatekeeper, i.e. an university and a firm.

Purpose This study aims to describe the role of knowledge diffusion in evolving governance principles for Islamic banking. Design/methodology/approach This study develops a discursive theoretical debate using the discourse analysis method on the Sharīʿah principles related to interest (Riba), excessive uncertainty (Gharrar) and profit and loss sharing and their convergence with the conventional banking principles of profitability, solvency and liquidity. Findings The study proposes a novel framework that describes how knowledge diffusion bridge-up the Sharīʿah and banking principles in terms of integration of banking principles by Sharīʿah scholars, integration of Sharīʿah principles by managers and the resultant, emergent principles for the governance of Islamic banking. Practical implications The proposed framework can inform professionals on how knowledge of banking practices and Sharīʿah can help them in governing Islamic banking. The Board of Directors may adopt a holistic approach for encouraging enhanced interactions between Sharīʿah scholars and managers. Such interaction may be increasing harmony, reducing conflicts and better coordination resulting in Sharīʿah-compliant and market wise viable products and services, thus increasing banking profitability. Originality/value This is the first study, which acknowledges and illustrates the role of the knowledge diffusion process in evolving governance principles for Islamic banks. This paper contributes to the theory of corporate governance by using the knowledge, aptitude and practice theory lens to examine conceptually how Islamic banking governance principles emerged through the knowledge diffusion process.

In this study, an effort is made to model the thermal conduction and mass diffusion phenomena in perspective of Buongiorno’s model and Cattaneo-Christov theory for 2D flow of magnetized Burgers nanofluid due to stretching cylinder. Moreover, the impacts of Joule heating and heat source are also included to investigate the heat flow mechanism. Additionally, mass diffusion process in flow of nanofluid is examined by employing the influence of chemical reaction. Mathematical modelling of momentum, heat and mass diffusion equations is carried out in mathematical formulation section of the manuscript. Homotopy analysis method (HAM) in Wolfram Mathematica is utilized to analyze the effects of physical dimensionless constants on flow, temperature and solutal distributions of Burgers nanofluid. Graphical results are depicted and physically justified in results and discussion section. At the end of the manuscript the section of closing remarks is also included to highlight the main findings of this study. It is revealed that an escalation in thermal relaxation time constant leads to ascend the temperature curves of nanofluid. Additionally, depreciation is assessed in mass diffusion process due to escalating amount of thermophoretic force constant.
