It is great significance for development of MTDC (Multi-terminal HVDC) to build DC transmission and distribution grids. However, the relatively low impedance in DC grids makes the fault penetration much faster and deeper .Consequently, fast and reliable DC circuit breaker is needed to isolate faults. Breaking time and other parameters are important for a breaker to achieve its goals. This paper presents a DC circuit breaker with a current-limiting inductance and gets the rising and falling characteristics of fault current. Based on the characteristics, a design method of breaking time sequence will be given, as well as the calculation of current-limiting inductance and the selection principles of arresters. A 10kV DC distribution grid is modeled and simulated by PSCAD/EMTDC to verify that the method can meet the requirements of breaking fault current quickly and reliably.

Abstract As an auxiliary project of engineering construction, spoil ground is often not given enough attention. Unreasonable spoiled materials not only have negative impacts on the local natural environment, but also generate the risk of secondary disasters. The selection and design of spoil ground is an important part of earthwork. And thus it is necessary to select the site of spoil ground reasonably and carefully and carry out detailed design of spoil, protection and flood drainage. First of all, the basic selection principles of spoil ground were discussed in this paper. Then, combined with the spoil ground design of the Heat and Power Cogeneration Power Workshop Project in Zhenfeng County's Coal, Electricity and Metallurgical Integration Industrial Park, the author presented elaboration of the technical key points of site selection, slope stability, blocking engineering and flood drainage system of large-scale spoil ground. The analysis in this paper can be used as a reference for similar spoil ground design.

We introduce a proper subclass of the class of rapidly varying sequences (logarithmic (translationally) rapidly varying sequences), motivated by a notion in information theory (self-information of the system). We prove some of its basic properties. In the main result, we prove that Rothberger?s and Kocinac?s selection principles hold, when this class is on the second coordinate, and on the first coordinate we have the class of positive and unbounded sequences

There are a multitude of concepts and techniques that could be important for teachers tolearn during their initial teacher education (ITE), but indiscriminately including all of themwould result in an overcrowded and fragmented curriculum. Given the limited time for ITE,rational knowledge selection choices must be made if coherent programmes are to beoffered to prospective teachers. This paper explores the approaches taken to addressing thecritical challenges facing education in South Africa and the principles from knowledgeselection that arise from these approaches. Different conceptions about how best to addressthese challenges offer directed priorities to guide knowledge selection decisions for ITEcurricula. Examples of knowledge selection principles that variously promote conceptual orcontextual coherence are presented and analysed, and tradeoffs associated with each one areconsidered. Although some recontextualising principles are mutually incompatiable, othershave the potential to coexist. In a four-year qualification, where sequencing choices can bemade, there exists the possibility of introducing different principles at different timeswithout unduly compromising internal coherence. A challenge for those who design ITEcurricula is to design conceptually coherent and/or contextually responsive curricula fullyaware of the affordances and limitations offered by different recontextualising principles.

Artificial Immune System as a new branch in computational intelligence is the distributed computational technique inspired by immunological principles. In particular, the Clonal Selection Algorithm (CS), which tries to imitate the mechanisms in the clonal selection principle proposed by Burent to better understand its natural processes and simulate its dynamical behavior in the presence of antigens, has received a rapid increasing interest. However, the description about the mechanisms in the algorithm is rarely seen in the literature and the related operators in the algorithm are still inefficient. In addition, the comparison with other algorithms (especially the genetic algorithms) lacks of analysis. In this chapter, several new clonal selection principles and operators are introduced, aiming not only at a better understanding of the immune system, but also at solving engineering problems more efficiently. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is verified by applying it to the famous traveling salesman problems (TSP).
