The work aimed to assess the cultivation and breeding prospects of the new Frontenac Gris technical grape variety obtained in 2003 by clonal selection as a colour-mutant Frontenac red technical grape originated by the University of Minnesota, USA. The variety is a complex cross-species hybrid with early maturity in the zone of Novocherkassk, Rostov Region. The variety was studied in 2018-2020 following the common viticulture and winemaking protocols at an experimental plot of the Novocherkassk trial field of All-Russian Research Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking named after Ya.I. Potapenko — Branch of the Federal Rostov Agricultural Research Centre. Vineyards were uncovered, unirrigated, grafted, Berlandieri×Riparia Kober 5BB rootstock, 3×1.5 m planting scheme. Formation as medium-standard double-shouldered horizontal cordon. By combination of economic value and agrobiological traits (cold and winter hardiness, yield, anti-phytopathogen resistance, high wine material quality), the Frontenac Gris variety holds promise in industrial viticulture. It can be recommended for gardening in sufficiently humid cool climates avoiding winter bush sheltering, as well as for breeding. The variety is low-hardy to drought and summer heat, which hinders its growing in the southern country. The variety’s disadvantages are in early maturity and slight berries wilting on bush in dry and windy air, which can pose an issue in juice production from pressed berries.

Aim. Value of cultivated Corylus L. as a fruit, ornamental and oilseed crop with prospects for use in the food industry, feed production and pharmacy are grown under the hazelnut name, makes it necessary to improve the methods of conservation and reproduction of Corylus spp., which can be valuable sources of initial material for breeding. Involvement in a hybridization of the well-known cultivars of hazelnuts with Chinese hazel (C. chinensis Franch.) contributed to the cre- ation of several new cultivars, in particular ‘Sofiyivsky 1’ (‘Ukraine-50’×C. chinensis), Sofiyivsky 2’ (‘Dar Pavlenka’×C. chinensis), and ’Sofiyivsky 15’ (‘Garibaldi’×C. chinensis). However, in the process of studying the morphological features   of C. chinensis from the collection of NDP “Sofiyivka” and analysis of the effectiveness of its interspecific interbreeding with other Corylus revealed their differences from the data given in the literature sources, which initiated our research. Materials and methods. Study of species-specific features of C. chinensis, hybridization, progeny analysis, clonal selection, propagation of selected seedlings, and generalization of the observations were performed using commonly used methods. Results and discussion. Comparison of morphological features of the C. chinensis imported from the Berlin Botanical Garden (Botanischer Garten Berlin-Dahlem) and its vegetative descendants with descriptions and photos given in the online database founded by the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew (Great Britain), showed the similarity of features of leaves, bark, and trunk with incomplete similarity of the infructescence, its shape, and downiness. It may indicate a hybrid origin of the introduced plant (Corylus…, 2017). The obtained data related to the value of C. сhinensis in hybridization with hazelnut cultivars using its male parent contradict the literature data that report on successful hybridization in direct combinations of C. chinensis×C. avellana and the incompatibility of these species in reciprocal crossing. Conclusions. It was found that the studied C. chinensis plants of generative age generally correspond to the descriptions of the species given in scientific sources and the electronic databases “Plants of the world Online” and “World Flora Online” in their morphological characteristics. However, the identified certain discrepancies indicate the need to continue their study, and the study of the others obtained from native sources of C. chinensis representatives, cultivars, and numerous interspecific hybrids using molecular and genetic DNA analysis methods.

Control strategies for uncertainties or nonlinear effects need to be developed for control systems. Optimization algorithms developed with the rapid development of computer technology are frequently used to improve the steady-state response with the help of the ambiguous mathematical characteristics or nonlinearity of control systems. In this study, an optimum proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controller was designed using the wound healing algorithm based on the clonal selection principle. The proposed algorithm is applied in self-tuning a PID controller in the ball and hoop system which represents a system of complex industrial processes. In order to adjust the PID parameters with the aid of the developed algorithm, an integral absolute error (IAE) has been chosen as the objective function. Thus, the system reached the optimum solution quickly and time was saved. The advantages of the proposed algorithm have been proved by comparing the obtained results with other algorithms. To succeed this, a programme was written in the MATLAB GUI environment.

Objective. The mainstream development trend in the era of intelligent sports. At present, with the rapid development of science and technology, it is absolutely wise to combine group intelligence with community intelligent sports services for the elderly. Group intelligence has opened a new era of intelligent sports service. Group intelligence has become an important factor in the development and growth of community intelligent sports service for the elderly and has become a hot topic at present. However, intelligence has encountered difficulties on the road of development. At present, the aging of the population is getting worse and worse, and the elderly have higher and higher requirements for fitness and leisure services, which leads to the need for sports services to be continuously strengthened. The distribution of resources is uneven, the data is not clear enough, and the swarm intelligence algorithm is not perfect. With the adaptation of the elderly to intelligence, more intelligent, concise, and personalized services need to be developed. The most important method is to optimize the swarm intelligence algorithm continuously. In this paper, PSO algorithm is optimized and HCSSPSO algorithm is proposed. HCSSPSO algorithm is a combination of PSO algorithm and clonal selection strategy, and test simulation experiments, PSO algorithm, CLPSO algorithm, and HCSSPSO algorithm for comparison. From the experimental results, HCSSPSO algorithm has better convergence speed and stability, whether it is data or comparison graph. The data optimized by HCSSPSO algorithm is higher than the original data and the other two algorithms in terms of satisfaction and resource allocation.

The latest trends in hazelnut production are moving in the direction of selection and breeding of more productive cultivars, isolation of native clones, and more intensive clonal selection of rootstocks aimed at enhancing the agronomic performance of plants. Serbia stands out in the production of quality planting material by grafting on Turkish filbert (Corylus colurna L.), which does not form shoots and develops in the form of a tree. The aim of this research was to investigate the success achieved by grafting leading Italian cultivars (Tonda gentile romana, Tonda di Giffoni, and Tonda Gentile della Langhe) and their clones on Turkish filbert seedlings using technology developed at the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Agriculture, Serbia, as well as determine possible differences in the quality and variability of the obtained planting material. For this purpose, from the end of March to the end of April, two-year-old C. colurna generative rootstocks (seedlings) were grafted by the whip and tongue method. At the beginning of September, the grafted plants were counted, and after the plants entered the dormant period (autumn in the year of grafting), they were taken out of the soil and classified. The obtained results revealed that the chosen hazel cultivars and clones exhibited excellent grafting success rate. In both analyzed years, as well as throughout the entire study period, greater grafting success was achieved using clones relative to the main cultivars. Over the two-year study period, the highest grafting success was achieved by clone AD17. Class I grafted plants were obtained in 80% of the cases, especially with Tombesi and AD17 clones, while significantly fewer Class I grafted plants were produced by grafting basic cultivars. Clones AD17 and Tombesi also produced grafted plants of greatest height and graft union diameter. All clones exhibited superior uniformity (i.e., a more stable grafting success) relative to their basic cultivars.

Dividing somatic stem cells acquire DNA changes marking different clones. With time, clones can become large, either stochastically through neutral drift, or increased fitness and consequent selection. We present a simple, direct, and general approach that distinguishes between these two processes in normal somatic tissue in individuals. The method relies on single time point whole genome sequencing to study somatic mosaicism as tissues age. Using this method, we show that in human clonal hemopoiesis (CH), clones with CH driver mutations, that comprise a median of 24% of hematopoiesis originate decades before they are detected. They expand, through selection by a median of 26% per year. Overall, there is a 3-fold increased rate of stem cell division and an 8.6-fold increase in active long-term stem cells.

There are about three thousand varieties belonging to Prunus domestica available at present worldwide that can be used as genitors in plum breeding activity. An analysis of the pedigrees of plum cvs. developed in Romanian breeding programs shows that the most are descended from ‘Tuleu gras’, ‘Renclod Althan’, ‘Anna Späth’, ‘Stanley’ and ‘Early Rivers’, called 'ancestors'. That means the majority of plum cvs. have at least one of the ancestors as parent or grandparent. For those 40 plum cvs. registered in Romania in 60 years an increased number of crosses with these 'ancestors' has led to what we call 'inbreeding'. According to data presented in this paper, ‘Tuleu gras’ cv. was the most frequently used parent in the cross combinations, giving origin to 23 cvs. Among the other frequently used genitors were: ‘Renclod Althan’ (7 cvs.), ‘Anna Späth’ (3 cvs.) and ‘Stanley’ (1 cv.). Many of the cultivars – 32 altogether (80%) have originated from hybridization, whereas 4 cvs. have originated from open pollination, others 3 cvs. from mutagenesis and 1 cv. from clonal selection. The goal of this work is to measure genetic diversity presently use in Romanian plum breeding. Pedigrees of each cv. were used to study the genetic contributions of ancestor. Of the 40 cvs. analyzed, 33 had an inbreeding coefficient other than zero. The overall mean inbreeding coefficient was 0.419 for all cvs., where their parentages were known. For cvs. with unknown parentage (nonrelated with known parentage) the inbreeding coefficient is zero. The mean coefficient of coancestry of 40 plum cvs. are 0.081 with ‘Tuleu gras’ cv., 0.019 with ‘Renclod Althan’ and ‘Anna Späth’ cvs., 0.017 with ‘Early Rivers’ cv., 0.014 with ‘d’Agen’ and ‘Renclod Violet’ cvs. and 0.005 with Stanley cv. In conclusion, plum breeders have worked with populations of greatly reduced genetic diversity and this strategy becomes a problem because it leads to genetic impoverishment, and, also, the loss of the genetic resistance to different diseases.

The germinal center (GC) is a site where somatic hypermutation and clonal selection are coupled for antibody affinity maturation against infections. However, how GCs are formed and regulated is incompletely understood. Here, we identified an unexpected role of Tank-binding kinase-1 (TBK1) as a crucial B cell–intrinsic factor for GC formation. Using immunization and malaria infection models, we show that TBK1-deficient B cells failed to form GC despite normal Tfh cell differentiation, although some malaria-infected B cell–specific TBK1-deficient mice could survive by GC-independent mechanisms. Mechanistically, TBK1 phosphorylation elevates in B cells during GC differentiation and regulates the balance of IRF4/BCL6 expression by limiting CD40 and BCR activation through noncanonical NF-κB and AKTT308 signaling. In the absence of TBK1, CD40 and BCR signaling synergistically enhanced IRF4 expression in Pre-GC, leading to BCL6 suppression, and therefore failed to form GCs. As a result, memory B cells generated from TBK1-deficient B cells fail to confer sterile immunity upon reinfection, suggesting that TBK1 determines B cell fate to promote long-lasting humoral immunity.
