✓ A 34-year-old woman presented with progressive loss of vision in her left eye of 2 months' evolution. Computerized tomography showed a hypodense lesion in the suprasellar region. At surgery a cystic lesion was found inside the optic nerve. Histological study proved it to be a neuroepithelial cyst. The pathogenesis of a neuroepithelial cyst in such an exceptional site is discussed.

✓ The authors report the case of a patient harboring a posterior fossa neuroepithelial cyst who presented with positional facial weakness and syncope. The patient recovered rapidly after cyst fenestration and placement of an internal cyst-cisternal shunt. The pathogenesis and principles of diagnosis and management of these rare lesions are reviewed.

Cerebral ependymal cyst is a rare benign neuroepithelial cyst. We report a case of cerebral ependymal cyst in a 62-year-old lady who presented with status epilepticus. She gave history of progressive right occipital headache over a year. Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the brain showed a large occipital cyst. She underwent a right craniotomy, deroofing of the cyst and insertion of Ommaya catheter. The clinicopathological aspects of the cyst are discussed.

✓ Developmental cysts lined by neuroepithelium are a distinctive form of neural tube dysgenesis. Neuropathological study of a fourth ventricular cyst that caused symptomatic hydrocephalus indicated its neuroepithelial origin. The cyst arose from the ventral surface of the cerebellar vermis. Evagination of the rhombencephalic roof and entrapment of a ventricular diverticulum beneath the cerebellar anlagen is proposed as a mechanism responsible for the extraordinary occurrence of neuroepithelial cysts within the fourth ventricle.
