We show the existence and uniqueness of the maximal entropy probability measure for partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms which are semiconjugate to non-uniformly expanding maps. Using the theory of projective metrics on cones, we then prove exponential decay of correlations for Hölder continuous observables and the central limit theorem for the maximal entropy probability measure. Moreover, for systems derived from a solenoid, we also prove the statistical stability for the maximal entropy probability measure. Finally, we use such techniques to obtain similar results in a context containing partially hyperbolic systems derived from Anosov.

AbstractA partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism $f$ has the quasi-shadowing property if for any pseudo orbit $\{x_{k}\}_{k\in \mathbb{Z}}$, there is a sequence of points $\{y_{k}\}_{k\in \mathbb{Z}}$ tracing it in which $y_{k+1}$ is obtained from $f(y_{k})$ by a motion ${\it\tau}$ along the center direction. We show that any partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism has the quasi-shadowing property, and if $f$ has a $C^{1}$ center foliation then we can require ${\it\tau}$ to move the points along the center foliation. As applications, we show that any partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism is topologically quasi-stable under $C^{0}$-perturbation. When $f$ has a uniformly compact $C^{1}$ center foliation, we also give partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism versions of some theorems which hold for uniformly hyperbolic systems, such as the Anosov closing lemma, the cloud lemma and the spectral decomposition theorem.

Abstract In this article we study physical measures for $\operatorname {C}^{1+\alpha }$ partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms with a mostly expanding center. We show that every diffeomorphism with a mostly expanding center direction exhibits a geometrical-combinatorial structure, which we call skeleton, that determines the number, basins and supports of the physical measures. Furthermore, the skeleton allows us to describe how physical measures bifurcate as the diffeomorphism changes under $C^1$ topology. Moreover, for each diffeomorphism with a mostly expanding center, there exists a $C^1$ neighbourhood, such that diffeomorphism among a $C^1$ residual subset of this neighbourhood admits finitely many physical measures, whose basins have full volume. We also show that the physical measures for diffeomorphisms with a mostly expanding center satisfy exponential decay of correlation for any Hölder observes. In particular, we prove that every $C^2$ , partially hyperbolic, accessible diffeomorphism with 1-dimensional center and nonvanishing center exponent has exponential decay of correlations for Hölder functions.

Abstract We explore new connections between the dynamics of conservative partially hyperbolic systems and the geometric measure-theoretic properties of their invariant foliations. Our methods are applied to two main classes of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms: fibered partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms and center-fixing partially hyperbolic systems. When the center is one-dimensional, assuming the diffeomorphism is accessible, we prove that the disintegration of the volume measure along the center foliation is either atomic or Lebesgue. Moreover, the latter case is rigid in dimension three (this does not require accessibility): the center foliation is actually smooth and the diffeomorphism is smoothly conjugate to an explicit rigid model. A partial extension to fibered partially hyperbolic systems with compact fibers of any dimension is also obtained. A common feature of these classes of diffeomorphisms is that the center leaves either are compact or can be made compact by taking an appropriate dynamically defined quotient. For volume-preserving partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms whose center foliation is absolutely continuous, if the generic center leaf is a circle, then every center leaf is compact.

AbstractWe obtain the following dichotomy for accessible partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms of three-dimensional manifolds having compact center leaves: either there is a unique entropy-maximizing measure, this measure has the Bernoulli property and its center Lyapunov exponent is 0, or there are a finite number of entropy-maximizing measures, all of them with non-zero center Lyapunov exponents (at least one with a negative exponent and one with a positive exponent), that are finite extensions of a Bernoulli system. In the first case of the dichotomy, we obtain that the system is topologically conjugated to a rotation extension of a hyperbolic system. This implies that the second case of the dichotomy holds for an open and dense set of diffeomorphisms in the hypothesis of our result. As a consequence, we obtain an open set of topologically mixing diffeomorphisms having more than one entropy-maximizing measure.

Abstract We consider Hölder continuous cocycles over an accessible partially hyperbolic system with values in the group of diffeomorphisms of a compact manifold $\mathcal {M}$ . We obtain several results for this setting. If a cocycle is bounded in $C^{1+\gamma }$ , we show that it has a continuous invariant family of $\gamma $ -Hölder Riemannian metrics on $\mathcal {M}$ . We establish continuity of a measurable conjugacy between two cocycles assuming bunching or existence of holonomies for both and pre-compactness in $C^0$ for one of them. We give conditions for existence of a continuous conjugacy between two cocycles in terms of their cycle weights. We also study the relation between the conjugacy and holonomies of the cocycles. Our results give arbitrarily small loss of regularity of the conjugacy along the fiber compared to that of the holonomies and of the cocycle.

Abstract We show that if a partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism of a Seifert manifold induces a map in the base which has a pseudo-Anosov component then it cannot be dynamically coherent. Abstract We develop a thermodynamic formalism for a smooth realization of pseudo-Anosov surface homeomorphisms. In this realization, the singularities of the pseudo-Anosov map are assumed to be fixed, and the trajectories are slowed down so the differential is the identity at these points. Using Young towers, we prove existence and uniqueness of equilibrium states for geometric t-potentials. This family of equilibrium states includes a unique SRB measure and a measure of maximal entropy, the latter of which has exponential decay of correlations and the central limit theorem.

It is well known that it is possible to construct a partially hyperbolic diffeomorphism on the 3-torus in a similar way to Kan’s example. It has two hyperbolic physical measures with intermingled basins supported on two embedded tori with Anosov dynamics. A natural question is how robust is the intermingled basin phenomenon for diffeomorphisms defined on boundaryless manifolds? In this work we study partially hyperbolic diffeomorphisms on the 3-torus and show that the intermingled basin phenomenon is not robust.
