Abstract We prove that the $\infty $ -category of $\mathrm{MGL} $ -modules over any scheme is equivalent to the $\infty $ -category of motivic spectra with finite syntomic transfers. Using the recognition principle for infinite $\mathbf{P} ^1$ -loop spaces, we deduce that very effective $\mathrm{MGL} $ -modules over a perfect field are equivalent to grouplike motivic spaces with finite syntomic transfers. Along the way, we describe any motivic Thom spectrum built from virtual vector bundles of nonnegative rank in terms of the moduli stack of finite quasi-smooth derived schemes with the corresponding tangential structure. In particular, over a regular equicharacteristic base, we show that $\Omega ^\infty _{\mathbf{P} ^1}\mathrm{MGL} $ is the $\mathbf{A} ^1$ -homotopy type of the moduli stack of virtual finite flat local complete intersections, and that for $n>0$ , $\Omega ^\infty _{\mathbf{P} ^1} \Sigma ^n_{\mathbf{P} ^1} \mathrm{MGL} $ is the $\mathbf{A} ^1$ -homotopy type of the moduli stack of finite quasi-smooth derived schemes of virtual dimension $-n$ .

Abstract We equate various Euler classes of algebraic vector bundles, including those of [12] and one suggested by M. J. Hopkins, A. Raksit, and J.-P. Serre. We establish integrality results for this Euler class and give formulas for local indices at isolated zeros, both in terms of the six-functors formalism of coherent sheaves and as an explicit recipe in the commutative algebra of Scheja and Storch. As an application, we compute the Euler classes enriched in bilinear forms associated to arithmetic counts of d-planes on complete intersections in $\mathbb P^n$ in terms of topological Euler numbers over $\mathbb {R}$ and $\mathbb {C}$ .

AbstractWe find upper bounds on the essential dimension of the moduli stack of parabolic vector bundles over a curve. When there is no parabolic structure, we improve the known upper bound on the essential dimension of the usual moduli stack. Our calculations also give lower bounds on the essential dimension of the semistable locus inside the moduli stack of vector bundles of rank r and degree d without parabolic structure.

AbstractWe compute some Hodge and Betti numbers of the moduli space of stable rank r, degree d vector bundles on a smooth projective curve. We do not assume r and d are coprime. In the process we equip the cohomology of an arbitrary algebraic stack with a functorial mixed Hodge structure. This Hodge structure is computed in the case of the moduli stack of rank r, degree d vector bundles on a curve. Our methods also yield a formula for the Poincaré polynomial of the moduli stack that is valid over any ground field. In the last section we use the previous sections to give a proof that the Tamagawa number of SLn is one.

AbstractIn this article we establish an analogue of the Barth-Van de Ven-Tyurin-Sato theorem. We prove that a finite rank vector bundle on a complete intersection of finite codimension in a linear ind-Grassmannian is isomorphic to a direct sum of line bundles.

AbstractFor an exact category having enough projective objects, we establish a bijection between thick subcategories containing the projective objects and thick subcategories of the stable derived category. Using this bijection, we classify thick subcategories of finitely generated modules over strict local complete intersections and produce generators for the category of coherent sheaves on a separated Noetherian scheme with an ample family of line bundles.

Abstract We define and study the motive of the moduli stack of vector bundles of fixed rank and degree over a smooth projective curve in Voevodsky’s category of motives. We prove that this motive can be written as a homotopy colimit of motives of smooth projective Quot schemes of torsion quotients of sums of line bundles on the curve. When working with rational coefficients, we prove that the motive of the stack of bundles lies in the localizing tensor subcategory generated by the motive of the curve, using Białynicki-Birula decompositions of these Quot schemes. We conjecture a formula for the motive of this stack, inspired by the work of Atiyah and Bott on the topology of the classifying space of the gauge group, and we prove this conjecture modulo a conjecture on the intersection theory of the Quot schemes.

We prove that the rack and quandle spaces of links in 3-manifolds, considered only as topological spaces (disregarding their cubical structure), are closely related to certain subspaces of the loop spaces on the 3-manifold, which we call the vertical and the straight loop space of the link. Using these models we prove that the homotopy type of the non-augmented rack and quandle spaces of a link L in a 3-manifold M depends essentially only on the homotopy type of the pair (M,M -L).
