Abstract We equip an arbitrary vector bundle over a Riemannian manifold, endowed with a fiber metric and a compatible connection, with a spherically symmetric metric (cf. [4]), and westudy harmonicity of its sections firstly as smooth maps and then as critical points of the energy functional with variations through smooth sections. We also characterize vertically harmonic sections. Finally, we give some examples of special vector bundles, recovering in some situations some classical harmonicity results.

AbstractWe study the motivic and $$\ell $$ ℓ -adic realizations of the dg category of singularities of the zero locus of a global section of a line bundle over a regular scheme. We will then use the formula obtained in this way together with a theorem due to D. Orlov and J. Burke–M. Walker to give a formula for the $$\ell $$ ℓ -adic realization of the dg category of singularities of the zero locus of a global section of a vector bundle. In particular, we obtain a formula for the $$\ell $$ ℓ -adic realization of the dg category of singularities of the special fiber of a scheme over a regular local ring of dimension n.

For a holomorphic vector bundle $E$ over a polarised K\"ahler manifold, we establish a direct link between the slope stability of $E$ and the asymptotic behaviour of Donaldson's functional, by defining the Quot-scheme limit of Fubini-Study metrics. In particular, we provide an explicit estimate which proves that Donaldson's functional is coercive on the set of Fubini-Study metrics if $E$ is slope stable, and give a new proof of Hermitian-Einstein metrics implying slope stability.

Let H be a complex Lie group acting holomorphically on a complex analytic space X such that the restriction to X_{\mathrm{red}} of every H-invariant regular function on X is constant. We prove that an H-equivariant holomorphic vector bundle E over X is $H$-finite, meaning f_1(E)= f_2(E) as H-equivariant bundles for two distinct polynomials f_1 and f_2 whose coefficients are nonnegative integers, if and only if the pullback of E along some H-equivariant finite \'etale covering of X is trivial as an H-equivariant bundle.

Abstract Consider a component ${\cal Q}$ of a stratum in the moduli space of area-one abelian differentials on a surface of genus g. Call a property ${\cal P}$ for periodic orbits of the Teichmüller flow on ${\cal Q}$ typical if the growth rate of orbits with property ${\cal P}$ is maximal. We show that the following property is typical. Given a continuous integrable cocycle over the Teichmüller flow with values in a vector bundle $V\to {\cal Q}$ , the logarithms of the eigenvalues of the matrix defined by the cocycle and the orbit are arbitrarily close to the Lyapunov exponents of the cocycle for the Masur–Veech measure.

Abstract Let E be a vector bundle of rank n on ℙ 1 {\mathbb{P}^{1}} . Fix a positive integer d. Let 𝒬 ⁢ ( E , d ) {\mathcal{Q}(E,d)} denote the Quot scheme of torsion quotients of E of degree d and let Gr ⁢ ( E , d ) {\mathrm{Gr}(E,d)} denote the Grassmann bundle that parametrizes the d-dimensional quotients of the fibers of E. We compute Seshadri constants of ample line bundles on 𝒬 ⁢ ( E , d ) {\mathcal{Q}(E,d)} and Gr ⁢ ( E , d ) {\mathrm{Gr}(E,d)} .

Abstract In this paper, we address the completeness problem of certain classes of Riemannian metrics on vector bundles. We first establish a general result on the completeness of the total space of a vector bundle when the projection is a horizontally conformal submersion with a bound condition on the dilation function, and in particular when it is a Riemannian submersion. This allows us to give completeness results for spherically symmetric metrics on vector bundle manifolds and eventually for the class of Cheeger-Gromoll and generalized Cheeger-Gromoll metrics on vector bundle manifolds. Moreover, we study the completeness of a subclass of g-natural metrics on tangent bundles and we extend the results to the case of unit tangent sphere bundles. Our proofs are mainly based on techniques of metric topology and on the Hopf-Rinow theorem.

Abstract We define a new notion of fiberwise linear differential operator on the total space of a vector bundle E. Our main result is that fiberwise linear differential operators on E are equivalent to (polynomial) derivations of an appropriate line bundle over E ∗ {E^{\ast}} . We believe this might represent a first step towards a definition of multiplicative (resp. infinitesimally multiplicative) differential operators on a Lie groupoid (resp. a Lie algebroid). We also discuss the linearization of a differential operator around a submanifold.
