This article explores the use of narrative theory as an analytical framework to investigate the extent to which popular hashtags and the news can develop into intersecting stories. It juxtaposes the case of hashtag-based reports seen during the Arab Spring to understand the coverage of notorious political episodes in Brazil. Namely, the 2016 impeachment of Dilma Rousseff and the 2018 election of Jair Bolsonaro. Here, narrative linearity emerges as a tool to observe the borrowing of Twitter hashtags in several journalistic pieces. It is contended that the linearity of authorship, narration and representation of time appears as a satisfactory pathway to trace the development of hashtags into popular news stories. Results suggested that hashtags can significantly follow narratives and agendas in journalism but differing from their original social media context.

AbstractAs novels can be mapped, maps in return can be shown to have a narrative dimension. Maps referring to historical events, for instance those of the invasion of the USSR in June 1941, obviously tell a story. Recounted through graphic means, that story has specific aspects in the areas of order, duration, frequency, authorship, and perspective. Yet, similar in this respect to the descriptions that historians provide, narrative maps are neither neutral, nor whole. Grounded in selection, they necessarily develop an argument, are incomplete, and rely on symbols that are both conventional and arbitrary.

Trial schematics are ubiquitous within psychology journals articles and have the potential to inform how we think about time in space from a non-linguistic point of view. Graphical representations of trial schematics were used to compare the spatial representations of time used by the scientific community with the dominant spatial stereotypes for temporal events reported by the scientific community. From 294 observations, approximately 81% of trial schematics contained left-to-right and / or top-to-bottom representations of first-to-last events, consistent with the dominant Western spatial expressions of time. An initially counter-intuitive left-to-right but bottom-to-top spatial stereotype used in approximately 18% of schematics is discussed with respect to its potential perceptual origins. The complications that arise from the use of multiple spatial axes in the representation of time are highlighted and given the tendency for trial schematics to be informationally poor, alternative routes for the supply of thorough experimental detail are suggested.

We established a resummed formula for the effective potential of [Formula: see text] scalar field theory that can mimic the true effective potential not only at the critical region but also at any point in the coupling space. We first extend the effective potential from the oscillator representation method, perturbatively, up to g3 order. We supplement perturbations by the use of a resummation algorithm, originally due to Kleinert, Thoms and Janke, which has the privilege of using the strong coupling as well as the large coupling behaviors rather than the conventional resummation techniques which use only the large order behavior. Accordingly, although the perturbation series available is up to g3 order, we found a good agreement between our resummed effective potential and the well-known features from constructive field theory. The resummed effective potential agrees well with the constructive field theory results concerning existing and order of phase transition in the absence of an external magnetic field. In the presence of the external magnetic field, as in magnetic systems, the effective potential shows nonexistence of phase transition and gives the behavior of the vacuum condensate as a monotonic increasing function of J, in complete agreement with constructive field theory methods.
