Many diolefins serve as ligands for the formation of complex ions with transition metals; some of these ligands undergo isomerization during complex formation (1.2). This paper reports the synthesis of a series of 4-substituted 4-vinylcyclohexenes which may function as pi bonding donors and may undergo rearrangement. The syntheses were carried out via Grignard reactions using 4-bromo-4-vinylcyclohexene, a previously unreported compound. Analytical data are given including elemental analyses, infrared spectra, and NMR findings for several compounds.
